Purpose of the Role

Man Group's US finance team currently consists of nine professionals across two locations; New York, NY and Fort Worth, TX, supporting Man Group's US-based entities and the wider global finance function. The team has grown through recent acquisitions, bringing together people from different organizations, each with their own processes and systems.

This newly created role is a significant step in the evolution of the US finance function. It will unite the team under single leadership, drive consistency across locations, and act as the bridge between the US and Man Group's global finance operations in London. It offers a genuine opportunity to shape how US finance operates at one of the world's leading alternative investment managers.

This senior leadership role sits at the heart of Man Group's US finance team. The Director will build a unified, high-performing finance team following a period of acquisitive growth, own the delivery of core finance processes, and act as the primary finance partner for US-based business leaders.

The successful candidate will be a technically strong, hands-on finance leader and US GAAP expert with a solid grasp of IFRS, comfortable navigating complex regulatory environments and engaging senior stakeholders across geographies. They will act with a high degree of autonomy while staying closely aligned with the London-based Group Financial Controller and global leadership.

This is a highly visible role for someone who thrives on complexity, enjoys building things, and wants to make a lasting impact on the function they lead.

Specific Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Integration

  • Lead and develop a nine-person finance team across New York and Fort Worth, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Drive the post-acquisition integration of finance teams, standardizing processes, systems, and ways of working into a single operating unit.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to team members, supporting their professional development and ensuring appropriate succession planning within the function.

Finance Operations

  • Own the US month-end close end-to-end, ensuring timely, accurate, and well-controlled reporting across all US entities.
  • Take responsibility for fee calculations and billing, accounts payable, and fund recharges, continuously improving efficiency and control across these processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance the scalability, accuracy, and risk profile of the finance function as the business continues to evolve.

Technical Accounting & Reporting

  • Serve as the in-house US GAAP subject matter expert, providing technical accounting analysis and guidance on new transactions, products, and structures.
  • Support Man Group's annual and half-year IFRS group reporting, partnering with the UK-based Group Finance team to ensure US inputs are accurate, timely, and well-documented.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of the regulatory reporting requirements applicable to Man Group's US entities, including registered broker-dealers.
  • Maintain strong control environment, ensuring controls in place remain fit for purpose as the business evolves and finance processes are automated.

Regulatory & Audit

  • Take senior finance responsibility for Man Group's regulated US entities, including the broker-dealer, ensuring all regulatory filings and financial obligations are met.
  • Manage the relationship with external auditors, serving as the primary US contact throughout the audit cycle and coordinating responses to queries efficiently and effectively.

Business Partnering & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the principal finance liaison for Man Group's US business, building trusted relationships with business heads, operations leaders, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Provide clear, commercial financial insight to support decision-making across the US business.
  • Operate with a high degree of independence while maintaining transparent, proactive communication with the London-based Group Financial Controller and global finance leadership.

Global Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the UK-based global finance team to ensure all cross-border processes operate seamlessly.
  • Champion consistent standards and best practices across the global finance function, contributing to firm-wide finance initiatives where appropriate.

Key Competencies

Essential

  • Qualified accountant (CPA or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience in a complex, multi-entity financial services environment.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing finance teams, including experience managing through organizational change such as post-acquisition integration.
  • Deep technical expertise in US GAAP, with demonstrated experience providing authoritative guidance on complex accounting matters.
  • Strong operational finance experience, including ownership of month-end close, accounts payable, fee billing, and fund recharges.
  • Experience working within or alongside regulated entities, particularly US broker-dealers (i.e. familiarity with FINRA/SEC reporting requirements).
  • Proven ability to manage external audit relationships and contribute to group-level financial reporting processes.
  • Highly self-directed, with the ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgement while keeping senior stakeholders appropriately informed.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the credibility and presence to influence across geographies, functions, and seniority levels.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of IFRS, particularly as it relates to group consolidation and reporting within a UK-listed or globally structured entity.
  • Prior experience in the investment management or financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with managing finance functions across multiple office locations.
  • Experience working within a global organization with reporting lines across jurisdictions.
