About USA Jet Power

In 2022, to support its fleet of jet engines and to allow it to provide services to other operators and leasing companies, USA Jet Airlines established USA Jet Power. USA Jet Power is a 14 CFR Part 145 Air Agency Repair Station located in Oscoda, Michigan, authorized to perform maintenance, inspection and testing on Pratt and Whitney JT8D turbofan engines that are certificated to operate upon Boeing 727, 737, Douglas DC-9 and MD88 aircraft. USA Jet Power is housed in a state-of-the-art 51,000 sq ft facility that supports its engine repair operations and parts warehousing.

What You’ll Do

The Director of Operations is directly responsible to the Accountable Manager in areas that concern engine maintenance processes for the engine repair center, production and material departments, and efforts to ensure engines are repaired within budgeted time and within USA JET, FAA and our customers’ standards of quality. The Director of Operations supervises all production, stockroom, and material management related positions.

  • Ensure the coordination and communication between the Maintenance personnel and Production Planning personnel is continuous, produces acceptable productivity.
  • Providing adequate training, equipment, materials, and competent personnel pertinent to the operations in order that it may comply with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and manufacturers’ recommendations.
  • Establish procedures to determine the need for new hire and recurrent training of personnel consistent with the work to be performed.
  • Training and assisting subordinates in the proper work procedures and practices to be followed.
  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of quality, cost, safety and on time delivery of the shop work.
  • Ensure necessary maintenance entries for engine processing used by the repair station are properly executed by the responsible aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs).
  • Ensuring that any work accomplished outside the facility is done in accordance with manufacturer and company quality standards.
  • Maintain the preservation of all units or parts during the work process, installation, and storage.
  • Assure the proper handling of parts while in the repair process and when work is completed.
  • Ensure the proper handling and preservation of all engine material during the work process, installation, and storage.
  • Communicate with customer as required to discuss progress reports as well as review man-hours and explain any discrepancies.
  • Update the Work In Progress (WIP) report on the status of all engine, modules, and piece parts going through the process steps on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. 
  • Report any obstacles which have any bearing on the cycle time or financial results for each service order.
  • Be available during off shift hours to communicate and coordinate with the Shift Leads to ensure that required responsibilities are carried out. 
  • Conduct production meetings for materials staff and production personnel.  Provide training and assistance to production and material staff to ensure proper procedures, methods and practices are followed to efficiently perform required tasks.
  • Ensure the production department and materials department personnel meet or exceed the engine center’s quality standards.
  • Maintaining the premises of the repair station in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Ensure the facility, shop tools and related equipment are maintained in serviceable working condition.
  • Observe and enforce safety precautions.
  • Maintain subordinates’ compliance with duty time limitations ensuring that no employee works more than a seven-day period without a twenty-four-hour break or equivalent thereof within a calendar month.
  • Ensure production functions are performed as outlined in the engine shop manual.
  • Participate and assist with the selection, evaluation, and discipline of department employees according to policies and procedures.
  • Responsible to actively participate in USA Jet Power Safety Program. Required to report all safety concerns in a timely manner. Required to ensure that they and their co­ workers are performing their functions in the safest possible manner. Required to follow the standards of the Occupational Safety and Health organization with legal authority at the location at which they are working.
  • Other duties as required by the Accountable Manager.

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of engine production.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in aircraft engine maintenance.
  • 5 years supervisory experience or 5 years of demonstrated inspection and or production department management ability.
  • Repairman Certificate or A&P (Powerplant) certification.
  • Knowledge of all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently.
  • Must be able to remain calm during adverse conditions.
  • Must be able to think and react quickly with a sense of urgency to time-sensitive problem situations.
  • Detailed organizational skills.
  • Computer software knowledge of key Microsoft Office platforms including Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to:
  • Walk, stand, reach/handle items, work with their hands, lift and/or move items 10-20 pounds, talk and hear others in conversations via the phone or in person.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to:
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, lift and/or move items up 20-50 pounds.
  • The noise level is usually moderate. Noise level can increase to loud when working test cell and working in the Rotor Shop area.

Additional Considerations

  • USA Jet Airlines, Inc. Maintenance and Inspection personnel must be able to travel on short notice to perform line maintenance and/or aircraft recovery/repairs as needed. This will require having an overnight bag always packed and being ready to travel with        little or no notice, for indefinite periods of time.
  • As part of the above-referenced travel requirements, Aircraft Maintenance and Inspection Personnel must have a valid passport within 90 days of hire at USA Jet Power, LLC. at the           employee's expense.
  • To be able to perform the job of an Aircraft Mechanic/Technician/Inspector, employees are     required to possess the minimum tools as outlined on departmental tool list.
  • As part of the job responsibilities of an Engine Shop Mechanic/Technician/Inspector, new hires will be required to complete the TSA Security Training Program, which is provided by USA Jet Airlines. Once personnel have successfully completed the training program, occasional travel will/may be required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass an initial, and random, Drug and Alcohol screening process as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and a Fingerprint Based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and/or Security Threat Assessment (STA) as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
