Job Summary

The Marieb College of Health & Human Services (MCHHS) at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) invites applications for a faculty member to join the college as the Director of Interprofessional Simulation and Emerging Technology. This individual will serve as the leader for innovative strategies for digital and immersive learning across all of our academic units, fostering Interprofessional Education (IPE). This individual will also lead scholarship activities around innovative technologies. The Director will lead the MCHHS faculty and staff through pedagogical activities including simulation and virtual reality and coordinate research on the effectiveness of the innovative technologies in enhancing student learning.

Currently, the college has approximately 1500 sq ft of simulation space. In the current structure there are some redundancies in the delivery of education. With a new building (AB 10) in the planning phase and support from their largest benefactor, the college is investing in interprofessional simulation and the exploration and implementation of emerging technologies across all MCHHS disciplines, assisting the faculty in the delivery of health care to the community and beyond.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees all administrative operations of the Simulation Center, including financial management, budget planning and execution, human resources, academic resources, space utilization, and operational needs.
  • Provides strategic leadership and management oversight for the Simulation Center, including strategic alignment, long-term planning, mission and vision development, and implementation of organizational priorities.
  • Serves as the primary decision-maker within the scope of responsibility and exercises independent judgment in consultation with the Dean and in accordance with university policies and procedures.
  • Directs and supervises Simulation Center staff; establishes performance expectations, accountability measures, and operational priorities; and exercises appropriate authority regarding employee performance, disciplinary actions, suspensions, and dismissals.
  • Fosters interprofessional collaboration in teaching and learning and leads the development of goals and measurable outcomes for interprofessional simulation experiences across the MCHHS.
  • Evaluates staffing needs and collaborates with departments and entities across the college to optimize resources, strengthen educational experiences, and minimize duplication and redundancy.
  • Evaluates and advances existing and emerging simulation technologies and innovative teaching methodologies to support high-quality, current, and effective teaching and learning.
  • Promotes interprofessional research and scholarship related to simulation, innovative technologies, and educational practices.
  •  Identifies and develops alternative revenue opportunities, including grants and external partnerships, to support the continued growth and sustainability of the Simulation Center.
  • Monitors Center activities, outcomes, and stakeholder needs to identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes that support evolving educational and organizational priorities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a health-related discipline.
  • Certified in simulation through Society for Simulation in Healthcare Certification Council.
  • Experience in academic leadership or supervisory roles, such as Program Coordinator/Director, Department Chair, or other relevant leadership positions.
  • Current rank of Associate or Full Professor, or a record of academic and professional achievement that meets the qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional master’s degree/certification(s) in education and pedagogy.
  • Experience teaching courses relevant to aging/gerontology.
  • Established research agenda with evidence of extramural funding.
  • Demonstrated record on simulation research.
  • Experience with Interprofessional Education (IPE).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of established skill competency, based on the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) and Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) guidelines and standards.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best PracticeTM.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership by delegating authority and decision-making responsibilities, fostering professional growth, strengthening team performance, and advancing organizational priorities.
  • Ability to engage productively with faculty across disciplines.
  • Skills in working in a rapidly developing regional comprehensive university with a focus on creating a student-learning environment among various academic disciplines.
  • Ability to successfully develop relationships and interact with external university constituents in construction, business, and technology and to establish relationships internally.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor and coach faculty and students, and participate in regional/national seminars, workshops and committees.
  • Ability to lead continuing education programs.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a various range of learners and to use information technology as a pedagogical and professional tool.
  • Ability to collaborate both within and outside of the university in the development and delivery of instruction.
  • Ability to collaborate with other faculty to develop a shared vision of the future.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.

Appointment will be made at an out-of-unit faculty rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience on a 12-month out-of-unit multi-year appointment basis with an anticipated start date of November 2026.
