Position Summary

As a key leadership position, the Director of Career and Technical Education/Workforce Development drives the strategic vision and operational excellence for Luna's CTE and Workforce Development divisions. This role encompasses comprehensive oversight of academic programs, non-credit training, and community education initiatives, ensuring they meet evolving community and industry needs. The Director is also responsible for managing the operational budget and will engage in teaching as required.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Leads the strategic planning and execution for all CTE, Workforce Development, and Community Education initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and community needs.
  • Oversees comprehensive academic program management within CTE, including curriculum development and maintenance, effective classroom instruction and evaluation, faculty qualifications, development, and syllabus preparation.
  • Develops and expands innovative non-credit workforce development programs and community education offerings, identifying and fostering opportunities for apprenticeships and internships that meet critical industry and community demands.
  • Directs the implementation and optimization of new technologies and software platforms to enhance program registration, management, and outreach for workforce development and community education programs.
  • Supervises, mentors, and evaluates staff and full- and part-time faculty members across CTE, Workforce Development incorporating Community Education programs into Workforce Development.
  • Conducts comprehensive budget management and development for all assigned departments.
  • Prepares institutional and external reports, including those related to workforce development outcomes and community impact.
  • Participates in programs supporting academic planning, career planning, recruiting, student retention, and student completion.
  • Builds and maintains strong community, industry, and other stakeholder relationships to identify workforce needs and opportunities.
  • Works to develop and expand work-based learning opportunities for students across all programs.
  • Collaborates with other Directors and the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services to support institutional strategic goals.
  • Collaborates with the Grants Office to secure additional funding for the division's initiatives.
  • Ensures the CTE and Workforce Development divisions remain in compliance with required policies and practices, including accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Organizes CTE and Workforce Development related career fairs working with other Luna departments as needed.
  • Acts as a primary workforce liaison across all academic departments to enhance student professional development and career readiness opportunities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience in developing partnerships with employers, workforce agencies, and community organizations to enhance career pathways and economic development.
  • Strong data-informed decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze workforce trends and student outcomes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, lead, and develop diverse teams within an educational or workforce development setting.
  • Expertise in accreditation, compliance, and regulatory frameworks related to both CTE and workforce training programs.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build relationships with faculty, students, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Project management expertise, including the ability to oversee multiple initiatives, manage risks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to implement and master educational instructional and workforce technology with an emphasis on implementing innovative solutions.
  • Ability to foster a culture of transparency, teamwork, and professional development within your CTE and Workforce Development.
  • Proven fiscal acumen, including experience with budget development, management, and resource allocation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL FACTORS

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sits most of the time.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection.
  • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES

  • Associate's Degree and 7+ years of relevant professional experience (e.g., in career and technical education, workforce development, or a skilled/craft trade) OR Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of relevant professional experience OR Master's Degree in Education, Business, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Administrative, Vocational, Academic, personnel management, or project management experience is preferred.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience with non-credit program development and community outreach is highly desirable.
