WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
The Director, Finance Prime Brokerage & Strategy within the Office of the US CFO needs to have deep expertise in prime brokerage operations to serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) driving the strategic and operational setup of RBC's new prime brokerage business within the Finance organization. This role focuses on translating prime brokerage requirements into robust operational frameworks, ensuring regulatory compliance, financial controls, and risk management excellence from day one.
WHAT YOU WILL DO?
- Develop comprehensive operational models and procedures for all prime brokerage functions including client onboarding, collateral management, settlement, and client reporting
- Regulatory & Capital Strategy: Lead regulatory capital planning, ensure compliance with prime brokerage regulations across all jurisdictions (US, Canada, EMEA), and partner with risk/compliance teams to establish appropriate capital and liquidity buffers
- Design and oversee daily operational processes including cash and collateral lockups, margin calls, corporate actions, and settlement procedures
- Establish robust financial controls, operational governance, and internal audit frameworks to ensure accuracy of client records, regulatory reporting, and financial statements
- Develop frameworks for counterparty risk assessment, collateral haircuts, liquidity management, and stress testing protocols
- Ensure accurate Risk-Weighted Asset (RWA) calculations and regulatory capital requirements; partner with finance teams on capital allocation and regulatory reporting
- Advise on prime brokerage product offerings, service levels, and pricing models aligned with market practices and RBC's risk appetite
- Continuously identify operational inefficiencies and implement improvements to enhance scalability and client service quality
- Ensure product(s) meets enterprise requirements for security, controls, compliance, audit, and resilience while applying agile delivery discipline
- Work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Provide thought leadership and work independently, while demonstrating strong attention to details.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or advanced technical credential preferred
- 7–10+ years of relevant broker-dealer finance/control experience, with meaningful direct experience supporting Prime Brokerage and / or a comparable financing/securities lending business
- Strong knowledge of Prime Brokerage products and transaction flows, including margin financing, securities lending/stock borrow-loan, collateral management and client cash/position activity.
- Demonstrated ability to understand front-to-back booking flows and translate complex trading and operational activity into appropriate accounting, financial reporting and control outcomes.
- Challenges the business and Operations, identifies weaknesses, and drives issues through resolution.
- Operates as a senior Finance challenge function for Prime Brokerage, proactively identifying accounting, control and operational risks.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, operational governance, and audit frameworks
- Experience with liquidity management and counterparty risk assessment in a prime brokerage or similar environment
- Demonstrated ability to design operational frameworks from inception for new business lines or significant process transformations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Regulatory certifications or compliance background preferred (e.g., CFA, FRM, or relevant regulatory certifications)
- Domain expertise across Regulatory Reporting, Financial Control, Treasury, Product Control, or FP&A, demonstrating understanding of how financial numbers are produced, reviewed, and challenged
Nice to have:
- Proven expertise in regulatory capital, RWA calculations, and compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $160,000 - $260,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
