A role in Enterprise Risk Management means you will help protect Target by identifying, assessing and managing a portfolio of top strategic, financial, operational, compliance, reputational and event-based risks the company faces. You will also play a key role in facilitating the company’s holistic Enterprise Risk Management program, strengthening the company’s risk acumen and providing strategic direction to company leaders on the most important risks.

This role leads the Enterprise Risk Portfolio Management function, providing strategic direction and oversight for a team of Enterprise Risk Portfolio Leads. The Director sets the vision, standards and operating model for enterprise risk portfolio management for top enterprise risks, strategic risks, and business unit level risks .

·       Set the strategic vision, priorities and operating model for the Portfolio Management function, including the program maturity roadmap, milestones and success metrics to advance capabilities over time.

·       Lead, develop and manage the team of Enterprise Risk Portfolio Leads, providing coaching, performance management and career development.

·       Shape and refine enterprise risk frameworks, risk tolerance, escalation protocols, taxonomy and portfolio management methodologies, standards and scoring used by the Portfolio Lead team.

·       Synthesize portfolio-level risk insights across all business units to identify enterprise-wide themes, trends, interdependencies and emerging risks, and ensure the team is positioned to support scenario planning.

·       Regularly engage through risk assessments on top enterprise and business unit risks with senior and executive leaders (VP and above) and represent the function in cross-functional leadership routines

·       Establish partnerships with VP functional leaders and regularly participate in functional team meetings as a way to informed of key priorities across the enterprise

·       Deeply understand the enterprise strategy and company performance indicators to lead evaluations of the overall effectiveness of the top enterprise risk portfolio 

·       Partner with ERM leadership, Internal Audit, and other second- and third-line functions to develop Board-level reporting, inform assurance planning and strengthen integrated risk governance.

·       Champion innovation in risk management practices, including adoption of genAI, advanced analytics and technology-enabled approaches to enhance risk visibility and reporting alongside Enterprise Risk Governance

·       Perform other duties as assigned.

About you:

·       BS/BA in a business-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       Minimum of 10+ years of directly related experience in enterprise risk management, compliance, audit, governance or a related field.

·       Minimum of 3+ years of direct people leadership experience, including managing and developing professional-level team members.

·       Excellent communication and facilitation skills with strong executive presence and comfort presenting to VP-level and Board-level audiences.

·       Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction, lead high-performing teams, drive organizational change and influence senior stakeholders across functions.

·       Ability to synthesize complex risk information into clear, actionable insights for diverse executive audiences.

·       Experience designing or evolving enterprise risk frameworks, risk appetite statements, escalation protocols or portfolio management methodologies.

·       Strong program management and creative problem-solving skills, with ability to manage competing priorities and connect risk signals to strategic decision-making.

·       Established acumen with genAI tools, analytics and new ways of working.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

·       Risk management, compliance, audit or program management certification (e.g., CRISC, COSO, PMP, CIA).

·       Experience in corporate environment working in a matrixed operation.

·       Experience with RiskCloud, GRC platforms, Power BI, Tableau or comparable dashboard tools.

·       Experience with enterprise risk, compliance management systems, control frameworks or integrated assurance practices.

·         Advanced degree (MBA, MS) or graduate-level education in risk management, business administration or a related discipline.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
