The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Medical Education has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Director, Admissions to work in Miami, FL. The Director, Admissions oversees student admissions policies and practices and reviews department operations to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Further, the Director, Admissions works with faculty and staff to recruit and admit exceptional students to assigned program(s) to further the University’s mission and goals. Additionally, the incumbent leads the development and implementation of short- and long-term goals for recruitment and admission processes.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

  • Develops a strategic recruiting plan to increase the quantity and quality of applicants in each respective program.

  • Assesses market trends and conducts external benchmarking.

  • Defines guidelines and criteria for student admission to applicable programs.

  • Identifies ways to improve and streamline the recruiting and admissions process.

  • Reviews and evaluates applicant files and conducts interviews.

  • Analyzes and interprets data for internal use to ensure departmental goals are being achieved.

  • Works with other departments to ensure that marketing strategies and campaigns align with recruitment needs.  

  • Assists in identifying potential markets for program expansion.

  • Administers departmental budget and ensures funds are being expended appropriately.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions

The Director of Admissions leads the operational execution of the admissions process for the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program and all joint and dual degree pathways at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. The Director of Admissions reports to the Associate Dean of Admissions and the Executive Director of Medical Education. They work in close partnership with the Admissions Committee and translates the school's mission-based selection criteria into fair, consistent, and legally sound practice across the full applicant lifecycle, from initial inquiry through matriculation. This is a key leadership position accountable for building durable systems and procedures, supervising and developing the admissions team, recruiting and enrolling a highly qualified class that reflects the communities the Miller School serves, and safeguarding the integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism of every admissions decision. The Director serves as the school's operational expert on AAMC application protocols, holistic review practice, and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation requirements governing medical student selection.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Enrollment Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership for admissions and enrollment management of the M.D. and dual/joint degree programs, developing and executing recruitment, selection, yield, and matriculation strategies aligned with the mission and enrollment goals of the medical school.

  • Monitor national admissions trends, market conditions, and enrollment data to inform strategic planning and policy recommendations.

  • Collaborate with academic and administrative leadership to achieve enrollment objectives.

  • Lead and develop admissions staff to foster a high-performing, service-oriented culture.

  • Direct workforce planning, succession planning, performance, and talent development.

  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, service, and continuous improvement.

Admissions Operations and Applicant Lifecycle Management

  • Direct all operations of the Office of Admissions, including admissions cycle planning, workflow management, policy implementation, service standards, compliance with AAMC and LCME standards, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop and maintain admissions policies, procedures, operational calendars, and applicant communications that support a high-quality candidate experience.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex applicant, family, and advisor concerns.

Holistic Review and Admissions Committee Administration

  • Partner with the Associate Dean of Admissions and faculty Admissions Committee to support holistic applicant review and mission aligned admissions decision-making.

  • Oversee interviewer, reviewer, and committee member training related to holistic review, structured interviewing, bias mitigation, confidentiality, and admissions best practices.

  • Ensure the integrity of the admissions review and selection process.

Dual, Joint Degree, and Medical Scholars (MSP) Program

  • Admissions lead for: MD, MD/Dual and Joint degrees, Medical Scholars Program (MSP).

  • Coordinate cross-functional admissions processes and operations for dual degree programs.

  • Provide data-informed recommendations for program recruitment, growth, and matriculation.

Data Analytics, Enrollment Forecasting, and Technology Management

  • Develop and oversee admissions analytics, enrollment forecasts, applicant pipeline metrics, and yield models, to support strategic decision-making.

  • Evaluate admissions outcomes, applicant flow, and enrollment trends to identify opportunities for improvement and optimize recruitment and selection strategies.

  • Oversee admissions technologies, CRM platforms, application systems, and data management processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and user satisfaction.

  • Maintain data integrity, privacy, security, and system access controls.

Accreditation, Compliance, and Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable accreditation standards, University policies, and federal and state regulations, including LCME, FERPA, ADA, Title IX, AAMC admissions protocols, and related requirements.

  • Serve as the admissions subject matter expert for accreditation reviews, self-studies, regulatory reporting, policy development, and institutional audits.

  • Maintain accurate admissions policies, records, documentation, and publicly available information related to the admissions process.

Recruitment, Outreach, and Communications

  • Lead recruitment, outreach, communications, and yield initiatives designed to attract and matriculate highly qualified applicants to the M.D., dual/joint degree, and Medical Scholars Programs.

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications, pathway programs, pre-health advisors, alumni, faculty, and student ambassadors to strengthen recruitment and engagement efforts.

  • Oversee admissions events, recruitment fairs, virtual programming, campus visits, accepted-student events, and yield initiatives.

  • Manage admissions communications and oversee digital content strategy.

Collaboration and External Relations

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with university leadership, faculty, student services, financial aid, registrar offices, partner programs, and external stakeholders. Represent the Miller School of Medicine at professional conferences, recruitment events, advisory meetings, and national admissions organizations.

  • Serve as a key resource and advisor on admissions policies, enrollment strategy, and applicant experience.

Budget and Resource Management

  • Develop the Office of Admissions budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of financial, personnel, technology, and operational resources.

  • Monitor expenditures, analyze operational performance, and recommend resource allocation.

  • Evaluate vendors and technology investments to maximize operational value.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission, strategic priorities, and operational needs of the Miller School of Medicine.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
