The Development Manager supports and advances fundraising strategies and helps grow philanthropic revenue through new donor acquisition, donor stewardship, and data-driven development operations in Charlotte, NC. This role plays an integral part in implementing initiatives that expand the network of individuals, corporations, and community partners investing in our mission to help children and families live successfully.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Development Manager:

  • Fundraising Strategy & Donor Stewardship

    • Serves as an active member of the Development team, contributing to long‑term strategic planning and day‑to‑day execution of departmental initiatives

    • Supports the implementation, execution, and evaluation of the annual development plan

    • Assists the Director of Development in creating, implementing, and managing a tiered stewardship program to support donor retention and increased giving

    • Manages a Charlotte portfolio of donors who give below $10k

    • Provides support for all additional activities required to meet and exceed Youth Villages annual fundraising goals

    • Oversees and supports projects related to fundraising and donor engagement

  •  Fundraising Operations

    • Manages Development Coordinator that will also be based out of Charlotte

    • Ensures the coordinator's success with growing volunteer base, Backpack and Holiday Hero Programs

    • Ensures the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of donor and prospect data, supporting high-quality relationship management and strategic decision‑making

    • Develops and maintains processes that enhance efficiency across fundraising activities

    • Monitors and recommends emerging trends and best practices into donor engagement strategies and departmental systems

    • Develops, refines, and maintains internal systems that support pipeline management, stewardship tracking, and donor insights

    • Utilizes reports to inform strategy, track performance, and guide portfolio management

  • Events & Campaign Management

    • Manages logistics of Charlotte Soaring Higher breakfast event and work with Development Director and local board members to secure table captains

    • Manages and executes additional fundraising, cultivation, and recognition events

    • Adheres to all corporate sponsorship benefits and deliverables connected to events, initiatives and any other funding needs that arise

Additional Information:

The ideal candidate excels at building strong donor relationships, managing campaigns and events, and ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the development region’s operational systems—including day‑to‑day data entry and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-10 years of advanced nonprofit or higher education development experience leading strategic fundraising initiatives and growing diversified financial revenues and resources, preferably with organizations having no naturally affiliated constituencies

  • Demonstrated success in campaigns and securing major and annual gifts primarily from individuals followed by foundations and corporations

  • Has a history of achieving annual, measurable fundraising goals of six figures or more

  • Demonstrated success in working as a member of a team and developing effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and donors; while also having the ability to work independently to accomplish goals

  • Knowledge of both local and national philanthropic communities and businesses headquartered in region

  • Working knowledge of donor management software (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce)

  • Understanding of best practices in donor stewardship and communication

  • Excellent time management, project management, and organizational skills

  • Excellent written and oral skills

  • Deep appreciation for and commitment to Youth Villages’ mission of helping America’s most vulnerable children and families
