SCOPE OF WORK: The International Rescue Committee (IRC), works in the United States welcomes newly arrived refugees and immigrants, supports them in their resettlement, and provides holistic services to help them build new lives in their communities. The IRC’s Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) department creates opportunities for refugees and other vulnerable migrants to survive and thrive in the US.  

The IRC in New York & New Jersey (IRC NYNJ) local program office supports a diverse group of clients including refugees, asylees, asylum seekers, trafficking survivors, and immigrants. The IRC NYNJ programs are focused on case management, economic empowerment, health and wellness, immigration services, anti-trafficking support, and more. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Development Intern will work with the Development Team for IRC NYNJ. The Development Team is responsible for raising funds to support IRC programs, building community connections, engaging potential donors, and raising the profile of IRC NYNJ. The Development Intern will help grow IRC NYNJ’s private fundraising portfolio supporting with prospecting, proposals, stewardship, communications, and events. Tasks include: 

Storytelling, marketing, and campaigns: 

  • Maintain and update story catalog with client stories and case studies in line with the Development Storytelling Strategy. 

  • Liaise with program departments to curate stories. 

  • Fundraising campaigns 

Develop Assets used for donor communications including Annual reports, welcome packet, one pagers and more. 

Events: track RSVPs and support planning, briefing, day of and post-event activities.  

Prospecting: Individual, Foundations, and corporations 

Fundraising analytic 

Assist with private grants: prepare deliverable sheet and maintain report/grant tracker. 

Bi-weekly in-person tasks from New York City Office such as mailing 

Additional administrative tasks and projects as they arise 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

Intern will learn how to drive fundraising and grants portfolio for a non-profit organization.  

Intern will gain firsthand experience with fundraising strategies and skills at a leading non-profit organization.  

Intern will have the opportunity to learn about IRC in New York & New Jersey program areas in depth 

 

REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be based in the U.S. Interns must be enrolled in post-secondary institution or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within last 2 years. 

The requirements should establish a baseline (minimum) for educational background, previous work experience, professional knowledge or certification, specific skills and strengths and any other skill necessary to perform the essential functions. 

The requirements should include: 

  • The minimal level of educational background –If applicable, add the accepted alternatives to education. 

  • Any special certificates or licenses, if needed, e.g., CPA or Chartered Accountant. 

  • The minimum years of previous experience – Detail the quality and focus of this experience – If applicable, list the accepted alternatives to specific experience. 

  • Describe the proven technical expertise, if needed – Add the years of experience with this particular technical expertise 

  • List and describe in further detail all the skills needed to do the job – Make sure to include the specific level of skill needed, e.g., excellent, solid, strong, basic, etc.  

  • If any extraordinary abilities are needed, list and describe them, e.g. language requirements

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

US Benefits: We offer a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. In the US, these include: 10 sick days, 10 US holidays, 20-25 paid time off days depending on role and tenure, medical insurance starting at $163 per month, dental starting at $6.50 per month, and vision starting at $5 per month, FSA for healthcare and commuter costs, a 403b retirement savings plans with immediately vested matching, disability & life insurance, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support counseling and care in times of crisis and mental health struggles.
