Job Description

The Deputy Building Inspector will provide special inspection support to Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) as a member of the LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division, working across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program. Initial assignments include the CTA Curbside Improvement Program and the Departures Curbside Refresh. The role requires knowledge of multiple code requirements, effective communication, and strong time management.

This is a full-time, on-site position (no hybrid or remote work). The estimated assignment runs from November 16, 2026 through June 30, 2027. Shifts vary and may include day, swing, or night shifts, modified schedules, and weekends as dictated by the contractor’s construction schedule.

Key Identifiers

  • Candidates must possess valid Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Deputy Inspector Licenses in Concrete Construction, Steel Construction, Drilled-in Anchors/Seismic Resistance, and Spray-Applied Fireproofing. Possession of other deputy licenses is preferred.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience performing as an LADBS Deputy Building Inspector on large-scale projects.
  • Candidates must provide proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training completed within the last four years, prior to assignment.

  • Candidates must be able to work any assigned shift (day, swing, or night), including modified schedules and weekends, as required to meet the contractor’s construction schedule.
  • Candidates must be able to walk extremely long distances during the shift, as walking is the primary means of traveling between terminals and curbside work areas.
  • Candidates must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, and access confined or elevated areas associated with the work being inspected.

Daily Duties

  • Conduct special inspections across multiple disciplines on Capital Improvement Program projects, verifying compliance with LADBS requirements, the Los Angeles City Building Code, approved plans and specifications, and LAWA-specific standards.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive daily inspection reports that capture the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all construction work activities, keeping reports clear and concise so they accurately reflect daily progress and promptly identify deficiencies or code violations.
  • Review and interpret construction documents, including plans, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Track changes, verify time-and-material work, and measure and document job quantities.
  • Assist in reviewing monthly progress payment requests when assigned to a program.
