Job Description:

Summary:

Every year, DC Reads hires Team Leaders (TLs) to work as a liaison between our community site partners and the DC Reads leadership. Team Leaders are responsible for assisting in the recruitment, hiring, training, and management of DC Reads Education Advocates (Tutor(s)/Mentor(s). This is a paid position for the entire academic year.

Essential Functions:

1.) Education Advocate Support

  • Foster a sense of community among Education Advocates.

  • Conduct biweekly check-ins with each Education Advocate at your respective site.

  • Serve as the main contact between Education Advocates and community site supervisors and DC Reads lead team (Director and Graduate Assistants) and provide timely feedback to DC Reads lead team about any concerns that arise.


2.) Administrative Responsibilities

  • Respond to DC Reads staff emails within 24 hours.

  • Submit timesheets on time.

  • Submit & review your TL Planning Tool and site attendance logs bi-weekly.

  • Facilitate each semester evaluation in a timely manner as instructed by DC Reads staff (4 total evaluations).

  • Attend requested check-ins with the Associate Director of Education and Equ.

  • Attend and co-facilitate (as needed) weekly TL meetings organized by the DC Reads lead team.

  • Ensure that no Education Advocates starts at site before they are cleared by the DC Reads lead team and appropriate volunteer clearance.


3.) Recruitment Responsibilities

  • Engage in recruitment activities including tabling, distributing flyers,university fairs, class announcements, social media, and other advertising efforts.

  • Encourage Education Advocates to engage in recruiting activities.

  • Conduct interviews for new Education Advocates applicants.

  • Conduct or co-facilitate one info session per semester.

4.) Training Responsibilities

  • Attend and facilitate DC Reads Education Advocate Orientations.

  • Facilitate with site coordinators site training at new Education Advocate orientation.

  • Help set up and clean up for new Education Advocates trainings.

  • Organize or research one skills building trainings each semester (TLs will collaborate with faculty and staff to do this).

  • Attend TL orientation/training(s).


5.) Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage a committee with other TLs and coordinate Education Advocate participation.

  • Follow through with projected committee goals.

  • Participate and engage in TL meetings and discussions.

  • Prepare for team leader meetings as needed.

  • Attend professional development events (this may include career center workshops, cross-leader conferences/retreats or DCPS related meetings).

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the DC Reads lead team.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 8 - 10 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.40 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Have tutored with DC Reads either as a FWS Education Advocate or Volunteer for at least one full semester.

  • Be in good standing with the DC Reads Program (showed up to site on time, attended site meetings and biweekly meetings, engaged at site, etc.).

  • Be able to work 8 - 10 hours a week during the Academic Year.

  • Responsible, professional, good communicator, growth mindset.

  • Have a demonstrated commitment to educational equity.
