The Data Center Capacity & Inventory Manager owns a single, accurate, and always-current view of the organization's entire data center estate worldwide. The role exists because the biggest infrastructure decisions — where to place workloads, when to expand or consolidate, and how to plan a move — are only as reliable as the underlying data on power, cooling, racks, and space.

That information is typically fragmented across sites, spreadsheets, and providers. This role consolidates it into one authoritative source of truth, keeps it current, and turns it into capacity forecasts, utilization reporting, and move/migration analysis the business depends on. It is accountable for the inventory and operational data of every facility the organization uses — owned, colocation, and edge.

Scope & Context

•         Global portfolio: every data center facility across all regions — company-owned and on-premises sites, colocation and wholesale space, and edge or remote equipment rooms.

•         Physical assets: racks and cabinets; power (utility feeds, UPS, generators, PDUs, circuits); cooling (CRAC/CRAH, containment, chilled water); floor, cage, and suite space; structured cabling; and environmental monitoring.

•         Data domains: inventory, capacity and utilization, contracts and commitments (colo agreements, power and space reservations), and a history of physical changes.

•         Organizational placement: reports into infrastructure/IT leadership and partners with networking, cloud, security, procurement, and finance.

•         Key stakeholders: site and facilities teams, colocation providers, infrastructure engineering, capacity planning, finance (cost allocation), and the business units requesting space or moves.

Key Responsibilities

•         Define and enforce how every site records and reports its power, cooling, rack, and space configuration, so data is comparable across the portfolio.

•         Participate in the the space, power, and cooling analysis behind data center moves, migrations, and consolidations: what fits where, target-site readiness, and the sequencing of each move.

•         Supply the accurate capacity and utilization data that drives resourcing and planning decisions

•         Manage capacity risk proactively: identify sites approaching power, cooling, or space limits before they constrain the business.

•         Uphold resilience, safety, and compliance standards across facilities, including redundancy targets (for example N+1) and disaster-recovery posture.

Inventory, Data & Capacity Management (Core Mandate)

This is the primary purpose of the role: a single, trusted, global source of truth for every data center, kept accurate and current.

Maintain the global inventory and data for all facilities

•         A complete register of every data center and equipment room, with location, provider, and contracted commitments.

•         Space: floor area, cage and suite allocation, rack and cabinet counts, rack-unit (RU) inventory and occupancy, and remaining white space.

•         Power: utility feeds and redundancy, UPS and generator capacity, PDU and circuit inventory, provisioned vs. actual draw (kW) per rack, row, and room, and PUE where measured.

•         Cooling: cooling capacity and type, containment, redundancy (N, N+1), temperature and humidity envelopes, and thermal headroom.

•         Racks & assets: rack elevations, cabinet layouts, and the physical assets each contains, mapped to their power and connectivity.

Turn that data into decisions

•         Track utilization and remaining headroom for space, power, and cooling at rack, row, room, and site level.

•         Forecast capacity, flag sites approaching their limits, and recommend expansion, consolidation, or reallocation.

•         Provide the analysis behind every move and migration — what a target site can support and how a move should be staged.

•         Produce regular reporting and dashboards for leadership, finance, and planning.

Own the tooling and data quality

•         Define data standards, naming conventions, and an audit cadence that keep the inventory accurate.

•         Run periodic physical audits and reconciliations against the recorded data.

Requirements

•         Proven experience managing data center infrastructure at multi-site or global scale, ideally across a mix of owned and colocation facilities.

•         Deep, practical understanding of data center power, cooling, and physical space — circuits, PDUs, UPS and generators, redundancy concepts (N, N+1, 2N), cooling systems, and containment.

•         A demonstrated track record of keeping accurate inventory and capacity data current across many sites.

•         Experience planning and executing data center moves, migrations, consolidations, or build-outs.

•         Colocation and vendor management experience — contracts, SLAs, capacity commitments, and cost control.

•         Strong data and reporting skills: able to turn raw facility data into clear capacity forecasts and dashboards, with advanced spreadsheet skills and comfort using BI or reporting tools.

•         Experience coordinating work across multiple regions, time zones, and stakeholder groups.

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications

•         Data center certifications such as Uptime Institute (ATD/ATS), BICSI DCDC, or EPI CDCP/CDCS/CDCE.

•         Familiarity with specific DCIM platforms (for example Nlyte, Sunbird, Device42, or Hyperview).

•         Knowledge of relevant standards — Uptime Institute Tier topology, ANSI/TIA-942, and ASHRAE thermal guidelines.

•         Exposure to hybrid environments (on-premises, colocation, edge, and public cloud) and how physical capacity relates to workload placement.

•         Awareness of data center sustainability and energy-efficiency practice, including PUE and power reporting.
