Who You Are
The Data Center Business Operations Manager is responsible for building, implementing, and continuously improving the operating frameworks, processes, and services that enable the business to operate consistently and effectively across locations and functions.
This role owns the development of enterprise-level business operations standards, including processes, procedures, governance, taxonomy, naming conventions, documentation standards, tools, and operating expectations that Project Managers and business teams use across the organization.
The Business Operations Manager partners closely with Finance, Procurement, Legal, HR, IT, and other corporate functions to translate company requirements into practical processes that meet the needs of the business and can be effectively implemented at the site and functional level.
The Business Operations Manager also leads the development and management of Workplace Services programs that require consistency and coordination across the organization, including vehicle fleet, uniforms, transportation services, culinary programs, and other shared operational services.
The Business Operations Manager establishes the program strategy, standards, processes, and expectations, while onsite Project Managers and local teams are responsible for implementing and managing those programs at the site level.
This role requires someone who can move fluidly between strategy and execution: designing scalable enterprise processes, partnering with corporate functions, building operational programs, and ensuring those programs can be successfully implemented in the field.
What You’ll Do
Business Operations & Enterprise Standards
- Design, implement, and continuously improve enterprise-level business operations processes, procedures, workflows, governance standards, templates, tools, and operating expectations.
- Establish and maintain consistent standards for how information is organized and managed, including taxonomy, naming conventions, documentation standards, project structures, reporting conventions, and other common ways of working.
- Develop scalable frameworks and playbooks that Project Managers and business teams can use to execute work consistently across departments, projects, and locations.
- Identify recurring friction, process gaps, unclear ownership, inefficient handoffs, and inconsistencies across the business and implement scalable solutions.
- Create documentation, training, and implementation guidance that enables Project Managers and business teams to understand and consistently apply established processes and standards.
- Monitor adoption and effectiveness of business operations processes and standards, identifying gaps and driving continuous improvement as business needs evolve.
Cross-Functional Process & Project Support
- Partner closely with Finance, Procurement, Legal, HR, IT, and other corporate functions to translate company-wide requirements into practical processes that appropriately support the needs of the business.
- Partner with Finance and Procurement on the development and rollout of processes related to budgeting, forecasting, purchasing, vendor management, financial controls, and other requirements.
- Support Legal with project management and cross-functional coordination for initiatives requiring structured planning, ownership, milestones, dependencies, and follow-through.
- Establish clear engagement models, workflows, roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths so Project Managers and business teams understand when and how to engage Finance, Procurement, Legal, and other support functions.
Workplace Services Programs
- Build and oversee enterprise Workplace Services programs that support consistent, efficient operations across locations.
- Establish the strategy, standards, processes, service expectations, and governance for programs such as vehicle fleet, uniforms, transportation services, culinary services, onsite office space and other shared workplace or operational services.
- Partner with Procurement, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders to establish appropriate vendor strategies, contracts, budgets, controls, and service-level expectations for Workplace Services programs.
- Develop enterprise playbooks and implementation standards for Workplace Services programs, providing clear direction to onsite Project Managers and local teams responsible for execution.
- Monitor program performance, service quality, cost, compliance, and business needs across locations and continuously improve programs as the organization evolves.
- Identify opportunities to standardize services, improve the employee experience, reduce operational friction, create efficiencies, and appropriately leverage enterprise scale.
Project Management Standards & Governance
- Establish enterprise project management standards, methodologies, tools, templates, and expectations that Project Managers can apply across the organization.
- Define how projects and initiatives are structured and tracked, including priorities, milestones, dependencies, risks, decisions, ownership, status reporting, and escalation paths.
- Develop and maintain standards for project and work management systems, ensuring information is structured consistently and provides meaningful visibility across projects, departments, and locations.
- Establish appropriate reporting standards, dashboards, KPIs, portfolio reporting, and operating reviews to provide visibility into business priorities, execution, risks, dependencies, and organizational capacity.
- Establish effective meeting, communication, and operating rhythms, including portfolio reviews, leadership updates, cross-functional operating reviews, and escalation mechanisms.
- Provide guidance, tools, and operating direction to Project Managers across the organization while enabling individual PMs to remain accountable for execution within their respective functions or sites.
- Establish priorities, expectations, and operating standards for regional Project Managers and ensure their work aligns with broader business priorities and enterprise operating practices.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and development to regional Project Managers while creating accountability for execution and results.
- Ensure regional Project Managers effectively support sites within their respective regions by coordinating cross-functional initiatives, resolving operational issues, implementing enterprise programs, and maintaining visibility into local priorities, risks, and dependencies.
- Partner with site and functional leaders to ensure regional Project Manager resources are deployed against the highest-priority business needs.
What We’re Looking For
- 6+ years of experience in business operations, strategy and operations, program management, PMO operations, workplace operations, or a similar cross-functional role.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing scalable operating processes across multiple teams, functions, or locations rather than simply administering existing processes.
- Experience developing enterprise standards, operating procedures, governance frameworks, playbooks, taxonomies, documentation standards, and common ways of working.
- Strong understanding of how business operations interact with Finance, Procurement, Legal, HR, IT, and other corporate support functions.
- Experience translating corporate policies, controls, and functional requirements into practical operating processes that meet the needs of the business.
- Experience building or managing shared operational or Workplace Services programs, such as fleet, transportation, food and beverage/culinary, uniforms, facilities-related services, or other enterprise services.
- Strong program and project management capabilities, with experience establishing governance, accountability, reporting, and operating rhythms across complex organizations.
- Experience with portfolio reporting, KPI development, dashboards, process documentation, and project/work management platforms.
- Strong process-improvement mindset with the ability to identify root causes, simplify workflows, standardize where appropriate, and drive adoption of new ways of working.
- Ability to influence and create accountability across teams without direct reporting authority.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to translate complex requirements into clear, executable processes.
- Comfortable operating at both the strategic and detailed execution levels—able to design enterprise operating models and programs while remaining close enough to execution to ensure they work in practice.
- PMP or equivalent project/program management certification preferred.
