Summary of the Job:

 

The Home Improvement Lending (HIL) department is hiring a Credit Underwriter who is responsible for receiving, reviewing, and processing applications for home improvement loans. The position assembles loan files for loans that meet initial lending criteria and are within approved lending limits as per loan policy. The underwriter ensures that customers and prospective customers are promptly and professionally served and assists other Credit Underwriters as necessary.

About This Role:

 

The hours for this role will be Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Coverage will require one weekday shift from Noon to 9 p.m. CST. and occasional Saturday coverage from 8:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. CST.

1.         Assumes responsibility for effectively receiving, reviewing, processing, and coordinating loan functions.

  • Gathers information and processes preliminary documentation on loan requests within their limit of authority.
  • Evaluates and verifies loan applications and credit criteria for the requested product. Reviews debt ratios.  Verifies employment and income.  Determines value of collateral and homeownership when required. Approves loans within limits of authority and notifies applicants of loan decisions.  Requests additional information if required.
  • Ensure that each loan file is promptly and properly prepared and documented based on the applicable loan product used and ensure correct procedures are followed to complete all requests for credit.
  • Reviews terms, rates and discounts on loans and applies special handling as required by loan type requested. 
  • Performs other duties as required.  This can include reporting, assisting with merchant support and customer service as needed to address merchant and consumer questions throughout the application process.   
  • Ensures that lending operations are conducted in accordance with established Company policies and are procedurally compliant. 

2.         Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective and professional business relationships with customers.

  • Ensure that contractor requests and questions are promptly and courteously resolved.  Answers questions regarding lending policies and programs that are of a general nature and refers in depth inquiries to the Credit Manager or Partner Success team as needed. 
  • Ensures the Company's quality and professional reputation is projected and maintained.

3.         Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and communication with area personnel and with management.

  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Keeps management informed of any significant issues with systems, merchant or aggregator related problems or questions generated by support. 
  • Assists in training new personnel.  Assists area personnel as needed and other department personnel as needed. 
  • Completes reports and records promptly and accurately.  Documents loans and attaches and/or documents all supporting information as required. 

4.         Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

  • Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained and adheres to policies concerning shredding of confidential or personal information for both the customer and the company.
  • Completes special projects as assigned. 

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

  • Lending functions are effectively performed in accordance with established Company policies and with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Good business relations exist with contractors and merchants.  Programs and services are properly and thoroughly explained, and customer’s needs are accurately assessed.  Customer problems are courteously and promptly resolved. 
  • Required reports and documentation are accurate and timely.
  • Good working relationships exist with area personnel and with management.  Area personnel are assisted as needed.
  • Credit applications and related financial data are closely and effectively analyzed and evaluated, and where applicable, service level requirements are met and maintained. 

The Ideal Candidate for This Role:

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Credit Underwriter with full-service financial institution 
  • Knowledge of consumer and residential lending practices.
  • Understanding of related legal and regulatory standards and required loan documentation.

Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and financial skills
  • Ability to use wide range of computer applications including loan origination systems and access and use third party platforms

Candidates must possess unrestricted work authorization and not require future sponsorship.

Compensation:

 

Compensation range (base pay): $63,288.00-$104,425.00

This role may have a specific starting pay within this range.

Final compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

Work Environment:

It is anticipated that the incumbent in this role will work in a hybrid capacity, balancing in-person collaboration three (3) days a week with remote flexibility two (2) days a week.
