The Corporate Underwriting Analyst helps protect the long-term health of Hagerty's collector and enthusiast vehicle program. This role analyzes production trends, pricing performance, competitive landscape, book segmentation, and underwriting results, then turns those findings into concrete recommendations that improve how Hagerty selects, prices, and manages risk.
What you'll do
- Own analyses that evaluate performance and measure the impact of underwriting actions and changes.
- Translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations for guidelines, standards, and process improvements.
- Help develop and refine underwriting guidelines and risk appetite for collector and enthusiast vehicles, balancing growth with sound risk selection.
- Assist in the development and communication of underwriting appetite to cross-functional partners.
- Build and present business cases, including cost-benefit analysis, to support decisions and influence change.
- Analyze production trends, pricing performance, competitive landscape, and book segmentation to identify emerging risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Review relevant insurance regulations and support implementation of changes to underwriting practices to ensure state compliance.
- Apply AI tools to accelerate research and analysis and to design more efficient ways of working.
- Lead projects from start to finish, partnering with Regional VPs, sales and service teams (including production underwriters), Claims, Data & Decision Science, and Technology to deliver measurable results.
- Define and document requirements for data, reporting, and system changes.
- Participate in user acceptance testing for underwriting-related system or rule changes.
This might describe you
- 1-3 years of relevant experience, with at least 1 year in an analytical or quality-focused capacity.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, formulas) and SQL or business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau); exposure to scripting (e.g., Python or R) or AI-enabled analytics is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting insights to leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Over and above
- Solid working knowledge of underwriting or insurance principles and processes.
- Solid understanding of underwriting/pricing performance drivers and competitive landscape dynamics within a specialty insurance segment.
- Familiarity with the collector vehicle, specialty auto, or enthusiast insurance segments.
- Experience partnering with data science or analytics functions to act on model output.
- Progress toward an industry credential such as CPCU or AU.
Other things to note
- This position is open to U.S. remote work. However, team members who reside within 20 miles of the Traverse City headquarters will follow a hybrid schedule, working from the office three days per week.
- May require occasional travel for partner meetings, industry events, and team collaboration.
- Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
