Chief Operating Officer — Alternative Asset Management (Latin America)
Role Overview
We are looking for a Chief Operating Officer to join an independent alternative asset manager operating across Latin America, managing over US $250M across real estate, debt, and a third well-defined vertical. In this role, you will be the operational and risk counterweight to the founders' opportunistic dealmaking — building the governance, compliance, and technology-enabled operating engine that lets the firm keep placing bold bets safely, while sitting at the management table as a true strategic partner.
What You'll Do
Risk Management & Controls: Own and continuously refine the firm's proprietary risk system, building checks and balances against founder-led, opportunistic decision-making.
Operations Engineering: Design and run a technology-enabled, compliance-forward operating engine; treat operational excellence as a competitive advantage, not a cost center.
Governance: Support governance across the shareholder pool, internal processes, and the firm's investment vehicles, meeting the standards expected by institutional investors.
Finance & Treasury Oversight: Own capital calls, distributions, fund-level reporting, liquidity, and banking relationships.
Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure operations meet Colombian financial regulatory standards and the expectations of cross-border institutional investors.
Technology Partnership: Work closely with the Tech Leader to champion AI-driven automation of investment and management processes.
Investor Operations: Be a credible, steady operational counterpart for institutional LPs, including pension funds and insurance companies, during due diligence and ongoing reporting.
Team & Culture Stewardship: Help scale a small, high-trust, low-turnover team without importing big-bank bureaucracy.
Must Have
10+ years in operations, finance, or risk leadership within alternative asset management, private equity, real estate funds, or a regulated financial institution.
Direct experience with institutional LP due diligence, pension funds, insurance companies, or similar allocators.
Fund operations literacy: capital calls, waterfall structures, fund administration, cross-border vehicle structuring.
Track record building risk, compliance, or governance functions from the ground up — not only operating within a pre-built one.
Comfort working cross-border across Colombia, the US, Spain, and Central America.
Genuine interest in technology and AI-enabled operations.
Why Join Us?
Opportunity to build the operational backbone of an up-and-coming, independent alternative asset manager in Latin America, managing over US $250M in assets.
A seat at the table — every employee has a real voice, and every success is shared.
Compensation based on results, not tenure — reward for risk management, hustle, resilience, and creative problem-solving.
Work alongside institutional investors, including pension funds and insurance companies.
A technology-enabled culture — AI agents support many of the firm's investment and management processes, and the COO helps shape how that keeps evolving.
A small, low-turnover team (under 10% annual turnover) that is relaxed and informal, yet profoundly meticulous.
Our Operating Principles
Value Beyond The Ordinary — We didn't get here by copying what already existed. We build differently, focusing on a few big bets rather than volume or trends.
Comfort Is a Warning Sign — We're relaxed and informal, but profoundly meticulous. If it feels too comfortable, we're not pushing hard enough.
We Are a Pack — We hire for judgment and ambition, and compensate based on results, not tenure. Every employee has a real seat at the table.
Serious Work, Not Serious Selves — We take the work seriously, but not ourselves.
First Investors, Then Us— We invest side by side with our investors and grow our wealth along them.
