Environmental Remediation & Civil Construction
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead field crews performing environmental remediation system installations and upgrades, civil construction, utility work, and stormwater infrastructure repairs and improvements.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with a strong safety record, extensive construction experience, and the ability to effectively manage field personnel, equipment, subcontractors, and project schedules.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise construction crews and subcontractors.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to quality standards.
- Coordinate daily field activities with project managers, engineers, clients, and inspectors.
- Oversee remediation system installations, excavation, grading, underground utilities, and stormwater infrastructure projects.
- Operate heavy equipment as needed, including excavators, loaders, backhoes, and skid steers.
- Prepare daily reports and monitor project progress.
- Provide input on project planning, scheduling, labor requirements, equipment needs, and material procurement.
- Maintain compliance with site-specific safety and environmental requirements.
- Site Leadership and Construction Management.
- Manage all daily construction activities from project mobilization through closeout.
- Supervise personnel, subcontractors, and field staff to achieve project objectives.
- Coordinate and schedule field activities while maintaining project milestones.
- Maintain project documentation including daily reports, field logs, inspections, schedules, and progress updates.
- Review plans, specifications, submittals, and contract requirements to ensure compliance.
- Monitor project budgets and provide rough-order cost estimates for field changes.
- Coordinate with project managers, safety professionals, and other technical leads.
- Serve as the primary field liaison with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Attend project meetings, as required.
- Identify project risks and implement corrective actions to maintain safety, quality, and schedule.
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or quality deficiencies exist.
- Attend job walks for potential new projects and support the cost estimating process.
- Maintain field documentation including equipment inspections, submittals, daily logs, manifests, bills of lading, delivery tickets, etc.
- Ensure compliance with contract specifications, quality standards, and Manuals.
- Verify all required safety and environmental plans, permits, and specifications are available during inspections.
- Administer the project’s Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and HAZWOPER requirements.
- Conduct daily safety inspections, toolbox talks, and site audits.
- Manage work permits including confined space, hot work, excavation, and other required permits.
- Verify required safety certifications for employees and subcontractors.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents and implement corrective actions.
- Promote a proactive safety culture across all project activities.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of construction experience, including environmental, civil, utility, or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience leading field crews and managing construction activities.
- Strong knowledge of excavation, utility installation, grading, and construction sequencing.
- Heavy equipment operating experience required.
- Experience estimating labor, equipment, and material needs.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.
- Ability to pass a drug screen and background check in compliance with federal regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Environmental remediation construction experience.
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
- Excavation/Trenching Competent Person certification.
- Confined Space Training
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Competent Person Certification.
Location: Southern California (project-based travel)
