The Construction Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and completion of underground utility, civil, and infrastructure construction projects. This role provides leadership to project teams, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards and client expectations. The Construction Manager oversees multiple projects, manages field personnel, coordinates with clients and subcontractors, and drives operational excellence throughout all phases of construction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management
- Oversee multiple UMI construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, manpower plans, and resource allocation.
- Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Ensure all work is completed according to project plans, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Review project progress and provide regular updates to senior leadership.
- Assist with project startup, mobilization, and closeout activities.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to achieve project objectives.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management to project staff.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Support workforce planning, hiring, training, and employee development initiatives.
- Facilitate communication between field operations, project teams, and executive leadership.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, owners, engineers, and inspectors.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Attend project meetings and provide operational updates.
- Resolve project challenges and customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Identify opportunities for additional work and business development.
Financial Management
- Review project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
- Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material expenditures.
- Approve project invoices, change orders, and purchase requests.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks impacting project profitability.
- Ensure projects meet revenue, margin, and performance objectives.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion all company safety programs and initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client safety requirements.
- Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action plans.
- Maintain a strong focus on risk management and hazard prevention.
- Ensure environmental and regulatory compliance on all projects.
Quality Control
- Ensure construction activities meet company and client quality standards.
- Support inspections, testing, and quality assurance programs.
- Monitor project deliverables to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Implement corrective actions when quality concerns arise.
Resource & Equipment Management
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and material needs across projects.
- Work closely with operations and equipment teams to maximize efficiency.
- Monitor equipment utilization and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure projects are adequately staffed to meet production goals.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Management, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and industry experience may be considered.
Experience
- 8+ years of construction experience with underground utilities, civil construction, infrastructure, or related projects.
- 3+ years in a leadership role overseeing multiple projects and project teams.
- Experience managing budgets, schedules, and client relationships.
- Proven success in delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of underground utility and civil construction practices.
- Knowledge of project management principles and construction methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong financial and business acumen.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with utility infrastructure, excavation, grading, and underground construction projects.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly visit active construction sites.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and navigate uneven terrain.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
This position operates in both office and field environments. Frequent travel to project sites is required. The Construction Manager must be able to effectively manage multiple projects while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, customer service, and operational excellence.
This role requires compliance with all applicable safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and Loenbro's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.
