STV is seeking a Construction Engineer to join our Transportation & Infrastructure team in Washington, DC. This is an opportunity to work on high-impact transit and infrastructure projects that support the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and help keep the region moving safely and efficiently.

In this role, you’ll be part of a collaborative and growing practice that supports a strong backlog of transportation and infrastructure work across the DC Metro area. You’ll help coordinate construction activities, protect critical transit assets, and work closely with agency partners, developers, contractors, and internal technical teams to keep projects moving forward.

The Construction Engineer will support transit-related civil and structural construction projects under a Task Order Contract with WMATA’s Joint Development Adjacent Construction (JDAC) team. The ideal candidate brings a strong mix of engineering design knowledge, construction management experience, and the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders to ensure work near WMATA property is planned, reviewed, and delivered safely.

Why STV: At STV, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects that directly improve the communities we serve. We offer the stability of a nationally recognized firm with the feeling of a collaborative, team-oriented environment where your experience is valued, your ideas are heard, and your career can continue to grow. If you’re looking for a role where you can make an impact, build strong client and agency relationships, and work alongside knowledgeable transportation professionals, STV is a strong place to do it.

What You’ll Do:

  • Research WMATA records and project resources to provide accurate as-built information for drawings, exhibits, calculations, and project planning.
  • Review plans, specifications, work plans, calculations, monitoring reports, and other project documents to identify potential impacts to WMATA property, operations, employees, and customers.
  • Guide owners, developers, contractors, and project teams through WMATA requirements, including adjacent construction procedures, design criteria, standards, specifications, and submittal expectations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary reviews with WMATA subject matter experts, compile comments, support design review meetings, and help keep submittals moving through the review process.
  • Support project setup and access needs, including badging requests, Roadway Worker Protection training coordination, track access requests, switching orders, permits, crew support, and site-specific work plan approvals.
  • Participate in design review meetings, site visits, pre-condition surveys, and progress meetings to help ensure work is coordinated, compliant, and aligned with WMATA procedures.
  • Monitor assigned projects, maintain project records, review project charges, support funding requests, and help resolve construction, access, design review, and coordination issues.
  • Visit project sites to confirm work is being performed in accordance with approved plans and safety measures, while protecting WMATA facilities, infrastructure, and operations.
  • Support project closeout by collecting as-built documents, warranties, surveys, punch list updates, closeout forms, and financial reconciliation information.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by following safety policies, encouraging the reporting of safety concerns, and supporting safe work practices across assigned projects.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of construction field or construction management experience, ideally supporting transit, rail, joint development, or adjacent construction projects.
  • Experience reviewing construction documents, coordinating project agreements, and supporting design-build, CMAR, or other alternative delivery projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction means and methods, project management practices, safety requirements, and industry standards.
  • Understanding of railroads, transit, or fixed-facility construction such as tunnels, stations, buildings, or related infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, agencies, contractors, technical reviewers, and internal project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and construction/project management platforms such as Procore.
  • Ability to obtain Roadway Worker Protection Training Level 2 within 3 months of hire.

Key Skills:

  • Clear written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, letters, meeting notes, comment matrices, project status updates, and stakeholder correspondence.
  • Strong verbal communication and facilitation skills for design reviews, progress meetings, internal coordination discussions, and stakeholder updates.
  • Ability to review technical documents, assess potential impacts, identify risks, and provide practical recommendations based on project requirements and agency standards.
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, reviews, and deadlines at the same time.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes, gather facts, coordinate solutions, and help resolve project issues in a collaborative and fair manner.

Abilities That Will Help You Succeed:

  • Build strong working relationships with agency partners, contractors, internal teams, and project stakeholders.
  • Stay organized while balancing multiple projects, deadlines, documents, reviews, and field coordination needs.
  • Use sound judgment, technical knowledge, and clear communication to help move projects forward safely and efficiently.
  • Take ownership of project coordination details while maintaining a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach.

Compensation Range:
