About the role

The Compliance and Laboratory Lead is a key role within the Innovation Centre, combining responsibility for regulatory compliance with the management of laboratory operations. The Compliance Lead ensures that the Food Application & Innovation Centre follows all relevant legal, regulatory, and ethical standards by developing, implementing, and monitoring appropriate policies and procedures. The role also involves advising management, managing risks, and promoting a strong culture of compliance throughout the organization. As Laboratory Lead, the position is responsible for the overall operation, safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement of the laboratory. In addition, the role supports the Fermentation Area by contributing to trials, research and development, and innovation activities.


Key responsibilities for this role entail

  • Establish and maintain compliance: Develop, implement and continuously update policies, procedures and risk controls to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, ethical standards and industry requirements.
  • Monitor and improve compliance performance: Track regulatory changes, conduct risk assessments and audits, investigate non-conformities, implement corrective actions and report findings and recommendations to management.
  • Ensure audit and inspection readiness: Maintain accurate compliance and laboratory records, coordinate internal and external audits, liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure transparent and timely reporting.
  • Promote a strong compliance culture: Provide training, guidance and practical support to employees, encouraging ethical conduct, accountability and effective risk management across the organization.
  • Lead daily laboratory operations: Ensure that laboratory activities are planned and performed safely, efficiently and in accordance with established quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage laboratory infrastructure and resources: Oversee equipment servicing, calibration and preventive maintenance, maintain the laboratory environment, and manage the purchasing, inventory and traceability of supplies and reagents.
  • Develop and standardise laboratory practices: Create, implement and continuously improve laboratory procedures, test protocols and documentation systems to support reliable and efficient operations.
  • Support and develop laboratory personnel: Train, supervise and support laboratory staff while monitoring laboratory performance and implementing improvements where needed.
  • Enable R&D and innovation activities: Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to support research, testing and project requirements, including trials in the processing areas with a particular focus on fermentation.
  • Contribute hands-on to fermentation activities: Actively support trial planning, execution, troubleshooting and follow-up within the Fermentation Area of the Innovation Centre.

Who you are

You are an analytical and solution-oriented professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You communicate confidently with both internal and external stakeholders and have a strong customer-focused mindset. You enjoy working collaboratively in dynamic, multidisciplinary and multicultural environments, and you are comfortable managing changing priorities. You are also confident presenting information and contributing to R&D projects.


What you know

You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Food Science or a related field, combined with at least two years of laboratory experience. You have a strong understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards. In addition, you are experienced in analyzing information, solving problems, preparing technical reports and delivering presentations. Experience working with R&D projects is considered an advantage.
