POSTING SUMMARY
The Champlain Maternal Newborn Regional Program (CMNRP) is a network, hosted by CHEO, whose mandate is to provide leadership and support for the coordination, planning and delivery of quality perinatal and newborn health services in Eastern Ontario. The Regional Director leads a dynamic professional team whose mission is to enable excellence in perinatal and newborn care.  CMNRP collaborates with health care providers, leaders and organizations on many initiatives at the regional, provincial and national level.

Effective communication with health care providers and stakeholders is critical to achieving CMNRP’s mission.  As the Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for the development, implementation and continuous evaluation of CMNRP’s communication strategy. With strategic support from the Regional Director and the clinical expertise of the CMNRP team, the specialist will engage with staff, health care providers, families, partners and related stakeholders to identify strategic communications opportunities and leverage a variety of internal and external communications channels to support CMNRP in fulfilling its mission. The specialist will provide communications support to the CMNRP team particularly around planning, producing, writing and editing final products for public consumption.  The communications specialist will contribute to projects that support CMNRP’s vision of achieving the best health outcomes and optimal experiences from preconception to the first year after birth for all.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and lead the execution of an annual communications plan for both internal and external stakeholders in alignment with CMNRP’s strategic plan
  • Collaborate with clinical subject matter experts and related stakeholders to plan, develop, promote, and disseminate mission related content, products, materials and reports through various channels
  • Contribute to brand development, web site redevelopment, social media strategy and the development of the CMNRP digital asset library to increase awareness and visibility of the CMNRP band, services, products and projects.
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest and emerging communications regulations, best practices and technologies and ensure implementation of best practices in communications and support the CMNRP team in the use of communications tools.
  • Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in communications or related field (Essential)
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience working in communications (Essential)
  • Experience in the health care sector (Essential)
  • Experience in government relations (Essential)
  • Experience in developing products across a variety of formats and managing social media channels (Essential)
  • Knowledge of current and emerging communications regulations (i.e. AODA), best practices and technology.
  • Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills (Essential)
  • Experience developing and executing communications plans (Essential)
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Tools (Essential)
  • May be required to sign other documents such as Code of Conduct and policies pursuant to hospital policy and as need arises. (Essential)
  • Complete mandatory training and refreshers within designated timeframes. (Essential)
  • Bilingualism (French/English) (Preferred)
  • Criminal Record Check (Level 1) (Essential)  

Timeline may be extended or shortened based on operational needs.

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process.  This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.  
 

Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
