Working directly under the supervision of the Senior Advisor Transformation and Culture, you will help identify and create engaging content that highlights our students, professors and researchers, academic initiatives, events, accomplishments, and student experience. We are looking for someone who understands how people use social media today and who can uphold high quality and consistent standards, bring fresh ideas, good judgment, and a coherent visual identity to our channels.

This is an opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience while building a portfolio of social media content in a university environment.

Responsibilities

  • Help tell the stories of Faculty of Education students, faculty members, researchers, programs, initiatives, and events.

  • Monitor student and/or community-led social media takeovers initiatives, including identifying students, liaising with them, planning and reviewing their work.

  • Identify opportunities to highlight student voices and the student experience.

  • Assist with content coordination, planning, scheduling and publishing through platforms and tools such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Buffer, and other relevant channels.

  • Monitor the Faculty's social media channels and identify relevant content that could be shared or amplified.

  • Help grow and engage the Faculty's audiences through thoughtful, goal-oriented content.

  • Monitor comments and direct messages and direct inquiries to the appropriate Faculty webpages or staff members.

  • Monitor social media platforms for trolling, hate speech, misinformation, and other inappropriate or harmful content.

  • Escalate content that does not comply with Faculty or University equity, safety, and related policies to the direct supervisor.

  • Monitor content published by social media delegates across Faculty units to ensure consistency with the visual identity, tone, quality standards, and guidelines of both the Faculty and McGill University.

  • Apply strong proofreading and quality-control skills, including grammar, spelling, word-count management, accuracy, formatting, image and video resolution, and platform-specific content requirements.

  • Assist with Faculty website edits and updates from time to time.

  • Capture and edit photos and short videos for social media.

  • Keep up with current social media formats, trends, tools, and best practices.

  • Provide platform-based analytics and reports.

  • Ensure content is accurate and consistent with Faculty and University branding and messaging.

  • Other related communications tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of current social media usage, platforms, formats, trends, and online culture.

  • Proven experience with organization accounts on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Buffer, and other relevant channels.

  • Creativity and a strong instinct for what makes social content engaging.

  • Experience creating social media content, including basic graphic design, copywriting, and video editing. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and experience with photography and video production are required.

  • Strong time-management skills.

  • Strong proofreading and quality-control skills, with excellent attention to accuracy, consistency, word count, formatting, and visual quality.

  • Sound judgment and awareness of social media risks, including the ability to identify and appropriately escalate hate speech, misinformation, trolling, and other harmful or inappropriate content.

  • Strong understanding of social media, branding, and visual identity standards

  • Ability to ensure content is consistent with Faculty and University safety policy and guidelines.

  • Self-starter who can work independently while taking direction and feedback.

  • High-level proficiency in written French, including grammar.

With your application: please include examples of social media content you have created or a link to an account you currently manage or have managed in the past.
