What do we need:
As a Cloud Ops Engineer on our ELN Platform Cloud Operations team, you will help build, operate and improve robust, scalable and secure AWS-based infrastructure that enables engineering teams to build, deploy and operate their services effectively. You’ll work closely with engineering, security and DevOps teams to improve platform reliability, automation and operational efficiency.
In this role you'll get to:
- Build and Maintain Cloud Infrastructure: Help develop and maintain highly available, secure and scalable AWS-based infrastructure supporting multiple products and services.
- Drive Automation: Develop and improve infrastructure-as-code (IaC), automation and self-service tooling to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with engineering, security and DevOps teams to implement cloud and infrastructure best practices.
- Enhance Platform Reliability: Contribute to observability, monitoring and incident response practices to maintain reliable and resilient services.
- Support Cloud Security: Apply security best practices to infrastructure and operational processes, helping to protect sensitive data and maintain compliance.
- Share Knowledge: Contribute to engineering best practices, participate in peer code reviews and share knowledge with colleagues.
We're looking for people who have:
Around 4+ years of experience working with cloud infrastructure and production services, ideally with hands-on experience in AWS. You’ll be comfortable working in a DevOps-focused environment, troubleshooting infrastructure and operational issues, and automating repetitive tasks. You’ll also be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues and work collaboratively within a wider engineering team.
The key skills we are looking for:
- Hands-on experience operating production workloads in AWS, using DevOps best practices
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python (required) or a related language such as PowerShell or Bash
- Experience working with Linux and/or Windows environments
- Experience automating operational workloads and infrastructure on AWS
- Experience with at least one configuration management tool, such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet or similar
- Good Python scripting skills, with some experience in at least one of the following: .NET, Ruby, Java or PowerShell
- Good understanding of CI/CD concepts, tools and pipeline design
- Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments
- Experience supporting distributed and highly available applications or services on AWS
- Solid Linux administration skills and working knowledge of Windows systems
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, load balancing and firewalls
- Experience with or understanding of serverless architectures, such as AWS Lambda and API Gateway
- Experience participating in peer code reviews and following software engineering best practices
