Job Summary
The Clinical Staff Manager (CSM), reporting to a multiple department Nursing Unit Director, is a direct supervisory leadership role that is a key member of the Nursing leadership team. The CSM leads a cohort of the assigned unit's staff members and actively participates in overall management of the unit, development of clinical practice, and provision of patient care with accountabilities for implementation and outcomes for people development, leadership, quality, service, compliance, finance, throughput and scheduling. The primary focus of the Clinical Staff Manager is to ensure the unit's optimal performance during each assigned shift and within their team of direct reports by engaging in effective problem solving for staff, patients and families and to develop/lead the assigned cohort. The Clinical Staff Manager provides feedback and coaching to staff members, recognizing them for their contributions while fostering a high performance culture linked to Grady’s revitalized values and behaviors.Responsiblities:
- Supervises day to day performance of staff through ongoing assessment and coaching to achieve goals. Completes formal evaluation of direct reports including, but not limited to, annual performance evaluation.
- Monitors service behaviors of cohort, coaching for consistency amongst all staff. Responds to and manages customer service issues that arise in day to day work. Rounds on patients and families daily. Proactively intervenes to address and/or prevent customer service issues. Brings to Unit Director identification of policy issues that impact customer service.
- Provides input for accurate preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets, including staffing issues, patient flow issues, and process change opportunities.
- Manages resources that achieve safe, cost effective, clinically appropriate patient care. Understands established area budget and adjusts resource utilization to minimize variances.
- Supports development of staff members by providing substantive feedback. Collaborate with leadership team when performance issues require formal performance improvement counseling. Delivers performance feedback. Know strengths and capabilities of each staff member and the implications for training needs, scheduling.
- The Clinical Staff Manager works collaboratively with the leadership team and staff members in assuring a patient/family focused environment.
- Embodies the revitalized Grady values and behaviors to maintain an environment of trust, fairness, consistency and confidentiality with team members and with internal and external customers.
- Listens and seeks clarification through rounding on direct reports. Conducts 30 and 90 day rounding, completes rounding log and uses findings to develop solutions to identified issues within scope of accountability. Utilizes existing tools to facilitate the communication such as the Stop Light Report.
- Promotes a safe, therapeutic, customer-friendly environment. Responds promptly to patient, family and staff concerns seeking to bring issues to resolution. Provides feedback to patient care team regarding issues.
- Interacts effectively with members of the health care team and ancillary departments to monitor and achieve quality patient outcomes. Supports evidence based changes to clinical practice in pursuit of quality patient outcomes.
- Educates staff and monitors compliance of staff in cohort; elevates non-compliance issues. Completes documentation audits for cohort in conjunction with quality and business managers.
- Builds, maintains and supports a culture that fosters effective working relationships within a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree of Nursing
- 3+ years of clinical nursing experience
- Clinical Nursing leadership experience preferred
