Job Title: Clinical Educator

Location: Central East Ontario
(including, but not limited to Pickering, North York, Richmond Hill, Oshawa, etc.)

Work Environment: Hybrid – 80% onsite in regional sites

We are currently recruiting a Clinical Educator for Central East Ontario who will play a key role in advancing clinical excellence and workforce capability across an assigned portfolio of Long-Term Care (LTC) homes. The Clinical Educator role is a hybrid role that combines in-person education across the assigned LTC homes within their region with administrative responsibilities (e.g. education content development, scheduling). Regular travel throughout the assigned region is an essential requirement. This position requires approximately 80% of working time to be spent onsite within all Long-Term Care homes across the assigned region. 

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Clinical Education, the Clinical Educator partners with home and regional leaders as well as frontline teams to deliver standardized, evidence-informed clinical skills education. Through onboarding, hands-on skills training, simulation, coaching, and competency development, the Clinical Educator supports safe practice, staff confidence, and high-quality, person-centred resident care. The Clinical Educator also helps translate policies and best practices into everyday practice while contributing to the development, evaluation, and expansion of Extendicare’s clinical education program. 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Successful candidates must have the ability to travel regularly across multiple sites, are required to possess a valid driver's license, and have regular access to a reliable vehicle.

• Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the applicable provincial regulatory college.
• Minimum 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in long-term care, geriatrics, or a related setting.
• Experience in clinical education delivery, adult learning, and competency development.
• Current BCLS/CPR certification.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating group education and applying adult learning principles.
• Knowledge of long-term care standards and infection prevention practices, and familiarity with quality improvement and resident safety principles.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adapt to the needs of multiple homes.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual learning, and LMS platforms.
• Graduate education in Nursing, Education, Leadership, or an adult education credential is an asset.

Key responsibilities include: 

• Deliver standardized onboarding, transition to practice, and on-going clinical skills education to regulated and unregulated clinical staff
• Facilitate engaging, learner-centered education through skills labs, simulation, microlearning, bedside coaching, and virtual delivery where applicable.
•  Assess and validate clinical competencies through knowledge assessment, return demonstration, and clinical judgment activities.
• Develop and adapt lesson plans, facilitator guides, learning resources, and competency assessment tools.
• Translate legislation, clinical policies, procedures, and best practices into clear and practical clinical skills education.
• Partner with home and regional leaders to identify practice gaps, learning needs, and education priorities.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and follow-up support to strengthen practice and sustain change.
• Use learning technologies, virtual platforms, and the learning management system to improve access and learner engagement.
• Monitor & track participation, competency completion, learner feedback, and outcomes to evaluate and improve education programs.
• Contribute to quality improvement, resident safety, and clinical practice-change initiatives.
• Build collaborative relationships across multiple homes and escalate significant education or practice concerns as appropriate.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

All candidates will be required to obtain and show proof of:

• Successful completion of Employment References
• A Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that must be within six-months
• Two-step TB Test
