ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team supporting the DOE's Y-12 National Security Complex! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee
Responsibilities
Develop high-quality detailed design packages.
Provide engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs.
Provide expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant facilities.
Work as a team member of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for a multi-discipline task and will routinely provide input to system engineers and other plant customers.
Perform walk-downs.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school with a minimum of 5 years experience.
Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
Demonstrated experience developing detailed engineering design packages for industrial, manufacturing, or other complex facility environments.
Experience providing engineering procurement support and field technical support through design implementation and construction.
Strong knowledge and practical application of civil engineering principles, theories, practices, codes, and standards.
Experience developing designs and modifications for stormwater management and storm drainage systems.
Experience with roadway design, site development, grading, drainage, and related civil infrastructure.
Knowledge of soil evaluation and geotechnical considerations affecting civil engineering designs.
Ability to perform technical assessments, troubleshooting, and evaluations of existing plant facilities and infrastructure.
Experience conducting facility walkdowns and field investigations to gather design information, verify existing conditions, and support engineering documentation.
Ability to provide field engineering support to construction and craft personnel during implementation of designs.
Demonstrated ability to independently develop technical solutions to complex civil engineering problems using established engineering practices.
Working knowledge of applicable consensus design codes, industry standards, and engineering requirements.
Experience providing technical oversight and coordination of outside engineering firms and contractors.
Ability to work effectively as part of an integrated, multidisciplinary project team.
Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical lead for multidisciplinary engineering tasks and coordinate activities across engineering disciplines.
Experience providing technical input and engineering support to system engineers, project teams, operations, and other facility customers.
Ability to develop technically accurate, constructible, and high-quality engineering design documentation.
Ability and willingness to perform field work and facility walkdowns in an active production/industrial environment.
Desired Skills
Active DOE "Q" Clearance, desired.
CAD drafting experience is preferred, but not required.

The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
