The role: 

Join our team as a circuit rider, where you will develop, design and deliver training to various Oregon public works agencies across the state. In this role, you will evaluate and assess training needs and provide information regarding training issues related to transportation and transportation technology.  You will participate in the planning of short- and long-term training goals and effectiveness, utilize various training evaluation tools and makes necessary modifications and develop new training. This is a part-time position. The posted salary/pay range for this announcement is based on full-time hours; the salary will be prorated for part-time hours.

A day in the life:

  • Continually assess training needs, as well as develop and deliver training courses aimed at training and development of employees and supervisors of local Oregon public works agencies.

  • Deliver courses that cover local public works agency training needs in areas of driver and vehicle safety, safe operation of equipment, work zone safety, road and street maintenance practices, incident and emergency management and a range of topics related to road construction, operations and maintenance. 

  • Evaluate effectiveness of training and training methods.

  • Represent the Oregon Technology Transfer Center through site visits to local agency public works offices in Oregon and through attendance and participation in local public works events.

  • Determine customer needs, provide information and technical assistance, collect and communicate information on innovations and new technology and gather feedback.

  • Participate, planning and preparation for training events. 

  • Attend Steering Committee meetings of the Oregon Technology Transfer Center. 

  • Drive to local agency public works offices throughout Oregon for site visits, technical assistance, and training presentations.

  • Work in a standard office environment with statewide travel required for training.

  • This is a part-time position, which typically works between 50 and 150 hours per month. The position is assigned a “non-regular work schedule”, where the numbers of hours worked on a daily basis and start and stop times vary.

Minimum qualifications:

Five years of work experience designing, planning, and implementing organizational development strategies;

OR

Five years of work experience designing, planning, and implementing adult education courses, or applying web-based technologies in a blended learning environment.


Note: A bachelor's degree in education, organizational psychology, business or public administration, training and development, human resources, organizational behavior, or related field may substitute for three years of the work experience stated above.

Special qualifications:

  • Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • You must possess a Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) Certification;

OR

  • Currently have 2,000 hours of verified work in traffic control–related tasks AND the ability to obtain Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) Certification within 6 months of hire.

  • Completion of a train-the-trainer class for flagging training is preferred.

  • Ability to teach more than three Roads Scholar (Level 1) Classes or any of the Roads Scholar (Level 2) Classes listed here

  • Experience adapting to different learning styles to improve comprehension.

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, simplified and provide specific, constructive feedback. 

  • Proven experience providing employee or vocational training.
