Description of Work

The primary purpose of this position is to provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment services for adolescents admitted to Whitaker PRTF. This position may consult (at the levels of both individual cases and systems) with agencies concerned with the welfare of patient population. This may include contact with area mental health programs, social service agencies, law enforcement agencies, etc.

This position supervises the Social Work Supervisor and the Staff Psychologist. This position meets weekly with the Clinical Team to review current residents, concerns, and plan any necessary changes to treatment. Additionally, this position works directly with the treatment team, conducting monthly meetings for each resident.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $170,121.00 - $340,243.00

Recruitment Range: $254,668.00 - $300,000.00

 

*A Sign-on bonus of $20,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on budget approval.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate potential inpatients and provide care to hospitalized psychiatric patients, as credentialed by the Medical Staff.
• Considerable knowledge of inpatient psychiatry, knowledge of the theories and general practices of medicine.
• Thorough knowledge of biological, social and psychological developmental process at all ages; a sound identity with and training in medicine and psychiatry; demonstrated clinical abilities.
• The ability to work on an interdisciplinary team and integrate care is essential.
• Board Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry preferred.

 

This Position Is Exempt And Is EXEMPT From Certain Provisions Of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126)

 

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

 

The normal work hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday however flexibility is required to meet facility needs. This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement.

 

*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

• The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
• The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
• DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

About Whitaker PRTF:

Whitaker Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) is an 18-bed secure residential treatment facility operated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services. As part of the Child and Family Services Section, it provides residential care, supervision, and educational services for residents, ages 13-17 with complex behavioral, emotional, psychological, and neurological disorders. It also provides community liaison support services for students and families with a staffing complement of 72 full-time clinical, educational, residential, and support positions.
