Summary:

The Radiation Chief Therapist supervises staff, staff development, technical procedure development and administrative duties. Has a broad knowledge of radiation oncology which ensures high clinical standards for excellent patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in conjunction with policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities:

Performs Administrative Duties including radiation therapist team meetings by scheduling meetings, developing agendas, taking notes as needed to facilitate post-meeting review of pertinent items with leader. Manages patient Activity Capture for appropriate patient procedure charges and as needed facilitates review of issues/errors with leader. Meets with leader to review department charges are up to date with CMS. Is assigned projects throughout the year to manage and report to leader for review.Runs and monitors Environment of Care to ensure all simulation and treatment units have a safe environment for patients and staff. Ensure staff is educated on par level stocking of patient equipment and supplies in the technical areas. Assesses clinical operations, competencies and clinical issues for solutions and/or review with leader.Leads all high risk and low volume procedures with radiation therapists to ensure pertinent information is reviewed with physician(s) and physicist(s) for patient safety. Ensure department patient morning rounds and team morning huddle are organized, prepared and ready to be run by CT/Simulation Therapist to ensure knowledge of clinical patients and department operations.Performs Quality Assurance and Process Improvement. Reviews and discusses patient treatment issues with physician(s) and/ or physics. Stays abreast of new technical techniques and technology to make recommendations to Department Leadership. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions, clinical workflow issues, and staff issues, as necessary. Ensures regulatory safety and radiation safety compliance with the therapist team and contributes to The Joint Commission (TJC) survey, American College of Radiology (ACR) survey and any other assigned to maintain department ready for accreditation.Creates the radiation therapists work schedule to coordinate with patient simulation and treatment units to ensure adequate staffing for efficiency and overtime. Acts as a liaison between the different work groups in the department (Physician/APP, Physics/Dosimetry, RTT, RN/MA, Leadership, etc.) to ensure prompt response to all clinical issues.As needed fills in when a therapist is out-of-clinic to simulate and/or treat patients. Also, as needed, will work with therapists directly to assess clinical operations, competencies, and any clinical issues. For delivering therapy, the Chief Therapist reviews physician orders and radiation therapy treatment plan. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. Positions patient and performs imaging/treatment procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the image/treatment quality including repositioning patient if needed to re-image before treatment.Runs and monitors Environment of Care to ensure all simulation and treatment units have a safe environment for patients and staff. Is assigned projects throughout the year to manage and report to leader for review.Leads all high risk and low volume procedures with radiation therapists to ensure pertinent information is reviewed with physician(s) and physicist(s) for patient safety. Prepares and runs department patient morning rounds to ensure knowledge of clinical patients to then disseminate information to the team at morning huddle. Prepares and runs department staff morning huddle.Creates the radiation therapists work schedule to coordinate with patient simulation and treatment units to ensure adequate staffing for efficiency and overtime. Acts as a liaison between the different work groups in the department (Physician, Physics/Dosimetry, RTT, RN, Leadership, etc.) to ensure prompt response to all clinical issues.Develops, reviews, educates, rolls-out for implementation clinical policies/procedures/job descriptions/competencies for the radiation therapist clinical area. Will also monitor for revisions as needed. Assess radiation therapists skills to ensure clinical competency for patient safety and employee annual evaluation and annual competency. Maintains documentation of radiation therapist coaching for review with leader and/or Human Resources.Manages radiation therapist relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management. Performs and oversees radiation therapists' recruitment/coaching, payroll, and students while maintaining leader informed. Responds to patient concerns/complaints immediately to review with leader.Works on Tx Units and CT/Simulation to be able to fill in as needed. Additional Job Information:

Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required Work Experience: A minimum of five (5) consecutive years of experience as a Radiation Therapist, including at least eighteen (18) months in a supervisory or leadership role within Radiation Therapy. Other Information: Additional Education Info: Associate of Science in Radiation Therapy or Radiology with Radiation Therapy Certification required. Bachelor Degree in HealthCare Leadership, Management, Radiation Therapy or Business preferred.
