Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, assists the professional staff by performing a variety of paraprofessional and technical functions which contribute to the safety, care and comfort of adults and geriatric patients their families.
Provides direct and indirect patient care, technical skills and procedures, performs routine secretarial and clerical duties and participates in maintaining the environment. Provides continuous observation of cardiac monitor tracings of acute cardiac patients. Ensures proper functioning of cardiac monitoring equipment. Interprets and reports cardiac dysrhythmia and initiates emergency measures when potentially lethal dysrhythmia occurs.

Meets hygiene and grooming needs of patients.
Assists in meeting the fluid and nutritional needs of patients.
Participates in maintaining patients skin integrity.
Initiates measure to provide for patient and family comfort.
Assists patients with elimination needs.
Assists patient with pulmonary toilet.
Provides and maintains a safe environment through preventive and intervention measures.
Provides care to patients requiring continuous electrical cardiac monitoring.
Collects patient data through observation, measurement, and data retrieval.
Obtains specimens for laboratory analysis.
Performs technical skills as defined by scope of practice and competency assessment process.
Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan developed by the professional staff, patient, and family.
Communicates effectively with patients, families, and staff.
Ability to set priorities, problems solve, use proper judgment in difficult situations and assist in emergency situations.
Provides transportation services which support patient care activities.
Performs activities to maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.
Performs general secretarial and clerical duties on the patient care unit.
Is responsible and accountable for own actions.
Participates actively as a member of the healthcare team.
Participates in educational activities. Balanced Performance Measure Innovation and Learning (IL)
Utilizes knowledge of physiological differences in providing services to specific age groups.
Provides age-appropriate assistance/supervision during activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, ambulating, and mobility.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED Required
Graduate of state approved nursing assistant certificate program or 2 years’ experience as a direct care provider in a related clinical setting or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the Director of Nursing. Required
Emergency Department positions require EMS training (Level I) or medical corpsmen experience. Required
Successful completion of Patient Care Technician Training Program, competency-based orientation, and Basic Cardiac Life Support.
Basic Dysrhythmia Rhythm (BDR) training preferred.
