As the site’s capital procurement lead, you will provide procurement and commercial leadership across capital projects, helping teams make sound sourcing, contracting and supplier decisions that support safe, timely and cost-effective delivery.

About the role

Based at Portland Aluminium Smelter, you will lead capital procurement activities for the site’s portfolio of capital projects. Reporting to the Procurement Manager – Capital in Perth, you will be accountable for translating capital procurement strategy into practical project and site outcomes.

You will oversee the capital procurement pipeline from early project planning through contract close-out. This includes procurement planning, sourcing and market engagement, tendering and evaluation, commercial negotiation, contract formation, supplier performance, variations and claims, governance, risk management and reporting.

Working effectively with appropriate autonomy, you will establish priorities, guide project-specific procurement approaches and provide clear commercial advice to site and project stakeholders. You will balance value, schedule, quality, risk and governance requirements, resolve complex commercial matters and escalate material issues with evidence-based recommendations.

You will also provide day-to-day functional leadership to the site-based capital procurement specialist, including work planning, coaching and quality oversight. Success in the role will rely on your ability to lead through influence and build productive relationships across project, engineering, operations, finance, legal and supplier groups.

In this role, you will:

• Lead capital procurement planning and delivery across Portland Aluminium Smelter’s portfolio of capital projects.
• Develop fit-for-purpose procurement and commercial strategies that support safe, timely, cost-effective and compliant project delivery.
• Lead end-to-end sourcing and contracting for critical and complex capital packages.
• Provide commercial leadership throughout the contract lifecycle, including supplier performance, change management and contract close-out.
• Maintain effective procurement governance and manage commercial, supply, contractor and delivery risks.
• Partner with project, engineering, operational and functional stakeholders to support effective commercial decisions.
• Provide functional leadership, coaching and delivery oversight to the site-based capital procurement specialist.
• Monitor procurement performance, milestones, risks and value outcomes, maintaining alignment with the broader capital procurement team.

What you can bring

• A relevant tertiary qualification in procurement, supply chain, business, commerce, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Demonstrated procurement and contract management experience supporting capital projects and complex commercial packages.
• End-to-end experience across procurement planning, sourcing, tendering, negotiation, contracting and supplier performance management.
• Experience in an industrial, resources, manufacturing, heavy engineering or similarly complex project environment is desirable.
• Sound commercial judgement and an understanding of project delivery, contract risk, cost drivers and supply markets.
• The ability to work with autonomy, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a changing environment.
• Effective stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, including the ability to navigate complex commercial matters and raise and explore alternative perspectives.
• Experience providing functional leadership, supported by effective systems capability and a commitment to ethical, safe and accountable decision-making.

About the Location

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%).
