Business Development & Revenue Growth Manager
Nexus Sports Ventures | Long Island & Eastern Queens
Nexus Sports Ventures is looking for a relentless, commercially minded Business Development & Revenue Growth Manager to help drive the next stage of our growth.
This is not a traditional marketing role, and it is not a role for someone who wants to simply manage an existing book of business.
We are looking for someone who loves building relationships, finding opportunities, selling, closing partnerships and figuring out how to grow revenue.
You will work directly with the President & CEO and have significant ownership over the growth of a multi-brand youth enrichment organization serving thousands of children across Long Island and Eastern Queens.
Your job is simple to describe:
Help us grow.
That means opening new doors with schools, childcare centers, camps, municipalities and community organizations; expanding our existing partnerships; increasing enrollment in our public programs; and identifying new opportunities that can materially grow the business.
About Nexus Sports Ventures
Nexus Sports Ventures operates Soccer Stars, Amazing Athletes, Karate Zoo, and Little Medical School throughout Long Island and Eastern Queens.
We provide youth sports and enrichment programming for thousands of children each year through schools, preschools, childcare centers, PTAs, parks and recreation departments, camps, soccer clubs, community organizations and public programs.
We have an established business, recognizable brands, a large existing customer base and significant opportunity to continue expanding throughout the region.
We are now looking for someone who can help turn that opportunity into revenue.
What You'll Own
New Business Development
You will personally develop and close partnerships with organizations including:
- Public and private schools
- School districts and PTAs
- Preschools and childcare centers
- Municipalities and parks & recreation departments
- Summer camps
- Soccer clubs and youth organizations
- Community centers
- Other organizations serving children and families
You will prospect, make calls, conduct in-person visits, run discovery meetings, develop proposals, negotiate agreements and move opportunities through the pipeline until they close.
You should be comfortable selling to everyone from a preschool owner to a PTA president to a school administrator or municipal recreation leader.
Revenue Growth
You will work directly with the President & CEO to identify the biggest opportunities to grow company revenue.
That may mean:
Launching programming with a new school district.
Turning one childcare location into a partnership with ten locations.
Increasing enrollment at an underperforming Soccer Stars location.
Developing a new camp or league.
Expanding an existing customer into another Nexus program.
Reactivating hundreds of previous families.
Finding an entirely new revenue opportunity we have not considered yet.
We want someone who constantly asks:
"Where can we find the next $X of revenue?"
And then works relentlessly to go get it.
Public Program Growth
Our business includes seasonal Soccer Stars classes, camps, clinics, leagues and other programs sold directly to families.
You will analyze enrollment by location, season, class and age group and develop plans to increase registrations and fill available capacity.
You will work with our operations and marketing teams on strategies including promotions, demos, customer outreach, re-enrollment campaigns, new locations, schedule changes and local partnerships.
You will not be expected to personally create every advertisement or email.
You will be expected to own the business result.
Partnership Expansion
Winning a new partner is only the beginning.
You will continually look for ways to expand successful partnerships into:
- Additional locations
- Additional days
- Additional seasons
- Camps and school-break programs
- Additional age groups
- Soccer Stars, Amazing Athletes and Karate Zoo programs
- Additional schools or facilities within the same organization
You will build strong relationships with partners while always looking for ways to create additional value for both organizations.
Team Leadership
You will initially manage our Partnerships Coordinator and may eventually oversee additional team members supporting revenue growth.
You will set clear expectations, review pipeline activity, coach outreach and selling skills, establish weekly priorities and hold the team accountable for results.
This is a player-coach position.
You will lead the team, but you will also personally sell.
What This Role Is Not
This is not a position where success is measured by the number of meetings held, emails sent or presentations created.
It is measured by results.
You should enjoy having a revenue target.
You should be comfortable being held accountable for it.
And you should be energized by figuring out how to beat it.
How Success Will Be Measured
Your primary measure of success will be revenue growth.
We will also measure:
- New partnership revenue
- Number and value of qualified opportunities created
- Partnership close rate
- Expansion of existing partnerships
- Public-program enrollment and fill rates
- Camp and seasonal-program growth
- Re-enrollment and retention
- Sales pipeline health
- Forecast accuracy
- Performance of the team you manage
Requirements
What We're Looking For
We're less interested in the perfect résumé than we are in evidence that you can grow a business.
You may come from education, youth enrichment, childcare, sports, camps, staffing, hospitality, franchising, local services, EdTech or another industry entirely.
What matters is that you know how to sell.
Strong candidates will have:
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant sales, business development, partnerships or revenue-growth experience
- A demonstrated track record of generating meaningful revenue
- Experience prospecting and developing new business rather than only servicing existing accounts
- Experience managing a sales pipeline from initial outreach through close
- The confidence to conduct cold outreach and walk into prospective partner locations
- Strong presentation, negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing or mentoring employees
- Strong business judgment and comfort working with numbers
- The ability to identify opportunities without waiting to be told what to do
- Strong follow-through and personal accountability
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout Long Island and Eastern Queens
We'd Especially Like to Meet You If
You have sold products or services to:
Schools, school districts, preschools, childcare organizations, camps, municipalities, recreation departments, youth organizations or multi-location businesses.
Existing relationships throughout Long Island or Queens would be valuable, but they are not required.
Benefits
Why Join Nexus Sports Ventures?
You won't be joining a large company where growth decisions take six months and five layers of approval.
You'll work directly with the owner of the business.
Strong ideas can become initiatives quickly.
You will have the opportunity to help determine where we expand, which partnerships we pursue, what programs we launch and how we build our revenue organization.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to become a critical leader inside a growing organization and have a direct, measurable impact on its success.
At the same time, the work matters.
The partnerships you create ultimately give more children access to programs that help them become active, confident and excited about sports and movement.
