2This position reports to the Fire Chief and supervises between four and seven Chevron fire department employees. Acts as the Incident Commander during incidents including fire suppression, medical response, hazardous materials, rescue operations, security incidents, oil spill mitigation, and other emergencies. Supports and passionately engages the philosophy that together we will do the job safely or not at all. Works closely with all levels of employees throughout the refinery including management, operations, maintenance, technical, and others.Health, Safety and Environment business unit is accepting online applications for the position of Battalion Chief located in Richmond, CA through October 5th, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (PST).
Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Leads Chevron Fire Department personnel and volunteer fire brigade members during all fire prevention, fire suppression, medical response, hazardous materials, rescue operations, security incidents, and oil spill mitigation.
- Sets up the Incident Command System during all incidents and functions as refinery management in charge until relieved.
- Implements Unified Command for incidents involving Federal, State, Local, and Chevron authorities to assure that Emergency Action Plans and Area Contingency Plans are implemented as quickly as possible.
- Acts as liaison between Chevron and all other municipal and/or mutual aid agencies.
- Works directly with the City of Richmond Fire and Police departments during emergency management situations
- Respond to off-site emergencies as part of mutual aid agreements.
- Will fulfill the roll of 2-in/2-out, if necessary, which requires mandatory attendance and participation in all crew training activities.
- Will maintain Fitness for Duty qualifications and participate in the Corporate Medical program.
- This is a Safety Sensitive position and requires mandatory, random drug screenings.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an emergency response organization.
- Minimum of 3 years’ leadership in an emergency response organization.
- Incident Management System ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-700, and ICS-800 certifications.
- Current California Class C Firefighter and/or Commercial Class A or B Firefighters driver’s license.
- Firefighter I certification (or equivalent).
- Emergency Medical Technician certification.
- Haz-Mat FRO, Technician, or Specialist certification.
- Possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be able to acquire one within the first 6 months of employment.
- This is a rotational twelve-hour work schedule. You will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates and or bachelor’s degree in emergency Response/Management or a related subject area.
- Rescue Systems level 1 certification (or equivalent).
Relocation Options:
Relocation will be considered within Chevron parameters.

International assignments will not be considered within Chevron parameters

- The anticipated salary range for this position is $104,700 – $180,500. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
