Associate Quantum Engineer

The Purpose

As an Associate Quantum Engineer, you'll help integrate novel hardware and software into the experimental systems that power OQC's quantum technology. Working alongside engineers and scientists across quantum control and hardware, you'll turn new ideas into working prototypes, proving out capabilities that can ultimately be scaled and deployed.

The Role

This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys experimental physics, hardware, coding and solving varied technical problems. You'll develop the experimental methods and systems needed to build superconducting quantum testbeds, using cryogenic and microwave measurements, automation and data analysis to understand and improve system performance.

You'll be part of a multidisciplinary, collaborative team where you'll have the opportunity to learn quickly, take ownership of technical challenges and contribute to increasingly sophisticated quantum hardware.

What You'll Be Working On

• Turn system requirements into working prototypes that demonstrate new capabilities and reduce technical risk.
• Characterise, calibrate and benchmark novel hardware, with a particular focus on readout and reset operations.
• Design, develop and run experimental procedures across integrated superconducting systems.
• Use cryogenic and microwave measurements, automation and data analysis to understand and improve system performance.
• Contribute to technical projects from experimental design and system build through to analysis, reporting and recommendations.
• Collaborate across quantum control and hardware teams to define requirements, resolve system-level challenges and improve device robustness.
• Share technical knowledge across the team and contribute to scientific publications, conferences and collaborative programmes.

What We're Looking For

• Experimental physics experience and a strong motivation to work hands-on with complex technical systems.
• Practical experience with scientific measurement and quantitative data analysis.
• Experience using Python for scientific analysis.
• The ability to independently investigate technical problems, draw evidence-based conclusions and communicate clear recommendations.
• Experience taking technical work or projects through experimentation, analysis and documentation.
• Curiosity, self-motivation and enthusiasm for learning within a multidisciplinary engineering and scientific environment.

The 'Nice-to-Haves'

• An undergraduate degree in physical sciences, engineering or a related discipline.
• Laboratory experience, particularly with RF or cryogenic systems.
• Experience working with quantum control hardware.
• Experience communicating scientific or technical information through presentations, reports or similar formats.
• Experience working collaboratively within technical or scientific teams.
