  • Monitor industry trends, assess their relevance to Wiley and the portfolio, and communicate implications, risks, and opportunities to key stakeholders.

  • Independently manage editor performance and meet regularly with journal editors to review, monitor, and report on journal progress.
  • Build a strong network within relevant research communities, gather market insights, and identify opportunities that create competitive advantage.
  • Organize, maintain, and report activities to the manager in a timely and effective manner.

Key responsibilities

1. Develop subject and portfolio strategies to grow submissions and published output

  • Develop and execute subject-level strategies aligned with Wiley’s global Health Sciences priorities.
  • Manage a complex, high-value, and high-potential portfolio of proprietary journals, including the Forward series, and partnership journals across open access and hybrid editorial models.
  • Create and implement growth plans and activities through the annual journal development planning cycle.
  • Monitor, drive, and deliver key journal performance objectives, including submissions, acceptances, and publications.
  • Identify and support new commercial opportunities for Wiley, including new journal launches and transitions to open access.

2. Advance operational excellence to drive portfolio performance

  • Proactively recruit, onboard, and manage the performance of external editors.
  • Champion and support company-wide initiatives across the journal portfolio, including REX migration and AI-related intelligence.
  • Collaborate with editors, Marketing, Content Transformation (CT), Peer Review Performance (PRP), Strategic Content Acquisition (SCA), and Partner Publishing (PP) teams to strengthen portfolio performance, operational effectiveness, and long-term competitiveness.

3. Market development and stakeholder engagement

  • Build effective publishing relationships and independently manage external editors and editorial boards, including complex relationships with societies and partners.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key academic institutions, societies, and research communities.
  • Increase journal visibility and submissions through targeted outreach, events, and strategic partnerships.
  • Represent Wiley at conferences, workshops, and institutional engagements.

What we look for

  • Bachelor’s degree or above; a MD/PhD in a relevant subject area is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of scholarly publishing trends, with the ability to assess major industry developments and their implications for Wiley.
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive, results-oriented relationships in a publishing environment.
  • Experience managing complex, high-value, and high-potential portfolios of society-owned and proprietary journals across open access and hybrid editorial models.
  • Proven ability to engage external stakeholders and build strong, productive partnerships.
