About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate academic leader to join the SA Rural Medical Program (SARM) as an Associate Professor in Rural Health, based in Renmark. This teaching-focused leadership role will drive excellence in clinical education, curriculum delivery and student learning across the rural medical program. Working closely with medical education leaders and academic staff, you will provide strategic direction, foster teaching innovation, and support the development of future rural medical practitioners while strengthening educational quality and program outcomes. You will also provide strong campus leadership and mentoring in our Renmark Campus.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing academic leadership and oversight of clinical teaching and learning across the SA Rural Medical Program, ensuring high-quality educational delivery and an exceptional student experience.

  • Leading, mentoring and supporting academic and teaching staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture and building capability in clinical education practices.

  • Driving curriculum development, review and innovation, ensuring alignment with accreditation requirements, contemporary educational practices and the broader MD Program.

  • Developing strong partnerships with healthcare providers, professional bodies and rural communities to enhance student opportunities, graduate employability and rural health outcomes.

This position makes a significant contribution to the University’s strategic plan to change 10 million lives, Every One Matters, by 2035 through directly contributing to the strategic driver of Student Centric. By leading excellence in rural clinical education, enhancing the student learning experience, and supporting the development of future medical professionals, this role helps create meaningful pathways for student success while strengthening healthcare outcomes in rural and regional communities.

About You

You are an accomplished clinical educator and academic leader with a passion for developing the next generation of healthcare professionals. With extensive clinical expertise and a strong track record of excellence in tertiary teaching, you bring the leadership, innovation and collaborative approach required to enhance student learning, drive curriculum excellence, and support high-quality clinical education in a rural health setting.

To be successful in this position, you will:

  • Bring significant clinical expertise and professional credibility, supported by a doctoral qualification (or equivalent experience) and current or eligible registration with AHPRA.

  • Have demonstrated excellence in tertiary teaching and clinical education, with a strong understanding of contemporary pedagogical practice and innovative approaches to learning and teaching.

  • Show proven leadership experience in managing and mentoring academic teams, driving teaching innovation, and fostering a culture of collaboration, capability development and educational excellence.

  • Excel at fostering meaningful relationships across the higher education and healthcare sectors, leveraging strong communication skills to drive successful program and accreditation outcomes.

Flinders Rural and Remote Health SA (FRRHSA) facilitates high quality multidisciplinary health education and research in our State's regional areas.

We have a strong national and international reputation for providing community-engaged inter-professional training for medical, nursing, and allied health students. This includes the SA Rural Medical (SARM) program and multidisciplinary rural clinical placements.

  • Staff working in a health care setting are strongly recommended to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in line with the SA Health policy.

  • It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Working with Children Check which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).
