DESCRIPTION:

Provides nutrition expertise and operational support for clinical trial nutrition programs and services. Supports the design, implementation, and delivery of nutrition-related study requirements, including clinical trial menus, nutrition counseling, lifestyle intervention programs, and food service coordination. Collaborates with internal teams, clients, vendors, and study staff to ensure high-quality execution, regulatory compliance, and consistent delivery of nutrition services.

Essential Functions and Other Job Information

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Supports nutrition services projects across single-site, multi-site, and regional clinical trials.
  • Coordinates and implements nutrition program requirements in accordance with study protocols, project plans, and established procedures.
  • Supports clinical trial menu development, modification, and implementation based on protocol requirements, participant needs, and applicable nutrition standards.
  • Provides nutrition counseling, education, and/or lifestyle intervention services as required by clinical trial protocols.
  • Reviews study protocols and related documentation to identify nutrition, dietary, food service, and lifestyle intervention requirements.
  • Collaborates with project teams, clinical staff, food service teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to support effective delivery of nutrition services.
  • Assists with coordination of vendors, food service requirements, supplies, and other resources needed to support clinical trial nutrition programs.
  • Supports compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards, including OSHA, Department of Health, FDA, and state or local requirements as applicable.
  • Maintains accurate documentation related to nutrition services, menus, participant interventions, and study requirements.
  • Identifies operational issues or process gaps and recommends improvements to nutrition service processes and workflows.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of nutrition-related procedures, tools, training materials, and study-specific resources.
  • Provides nutrition subject matter expertise to internal teams and clients within the scope of assigned projects.
  • Supports client meetings, bid defenses, presentations, and business development activities by providing nutrition-related information and expertise.
  • Develops and delivers presentations, training, or educational materials related to nutrition services for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performs other nutrition-related duties as assigned based on study and operational needs.

Supervision Received / Freedom to Act

Works on assignments of moderate scope using established procedures, professional knowledge, and judgment. Receives general guidance regarding objectives and priorities. Work is reviewed for accuracy, quality, compliance with study requirements, and achievement of project timelines. Escalates complex, unusual, or higher-risk issues to management or senior nutrition staff as appropriate.

Interactions / Business Relationships

Interacts regularly with internal project teams, clinical operations staff, food service personnel, vendors, and other functional groups to coordinate nutrition-related study activities. May interact directly with clients, study participants, and external partners regarding nutrition program requirements and service delivery. Participates in project meetings and may present nutrition-related information to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, public health, food science, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in clinical nutrition, research, healthcare, wellness, food service, or a related environment preferred.
  • Experience supporting nutrition programs, menu development, nutrition counseling, or lifestyle interventions preferred.
  • Clinical research or clinical trial experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams preferred.

In some cases, an equivalency consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training, and/or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of nutrition principles, standards, and evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to apply nutrition knowledge within clinical trial, research, healthcare, or food service environments.
  • Ability to develop, review, and adapt menus based on study requirements, nutritional specifications, participant needs, and dietary restrictions.
  • Knowledge of nutrition counseling and lifestyle intervention principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with participants, colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
  • Ability to interpret study protocols, procedures, and nutrition-related requirements.
  • Ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to changing study requirements, priorities, and timelines.
  • Ability to contribute to process improvements and implementation of standardized nutrition service workflows.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn additional programs and systems as required.

Policy and Strategy

Works within established company policies, departmental procedures, study protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements. Applies established procedures to assigned work and may recommend improvements to processes, tools, and nutrition service practices. Does not have responsibility for establishing departmental policies, budgets, or organizational strategy.

Management Role

This is an individual contributor position with no direct people-management responsibility. May provide guidance, training, or nutrition-related subject matter expertise to colleagues, project teams, or operational staff as appropriate.

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Work is primarily office-based with occasional time spent in clinical, food service, and operational areas.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support study activities, training, client meetings, or operational needs.
  • Requires consistent attention to detail.
  • Occasional use of personal protective equipment, such as protective garments and gloves, may be required.
  • Work schedules may occasionally include early mornings, evenings, or weekends based on clinical trial and operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stationary for 6–8 hours per day.
  • Repetitive hand movement with the ability to perform frequent computer and keyboard-related tasks.
  • Occasional mobility required.
  • Occasional crouching, stooping, bending, and twisting of the upper body and neck.
  • May occasionally lift, carry, or otherwise move food trays, supplies, or deliveries weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both internally and externally.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and to understand information presented verbally and in writing.
  • May interact with diverse groups and gather or communicate sensitive information.
  • Works with guidance from management and established written or verbal instructions.
  • May perform a variety of tasks in response to changing study and operational requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines, manage competing priorities, and perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Regular and consistent attendance required.
