Associate Lead - Technical Design
About This Opportunity
We are seeking an Associate Lead - Technical Design to lead a team of Technical Designers responsible for creating and maintaining design assets across multiple digital platforms. This is an entry-level leadership position that combines hands-on technical production with team coordination and coaching responsibilities. While continuing to contribute directly to design deliverables, this role provides day-to-day guidance, quality oversight, and mentorship for a small team of Technical Designers.
General Purpose
The Associate Lead - Technical Design serves as the team's primary technical resource, translating finalized furniture layouts and planning concepts into design files supporting AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. Working from existing CET Designer drawings and established design documentation, this role ensures technical assets accurately represent design intent, planning requirements, and current product specifications.
Essential Functions
- Lead the creation and maintenance of design assets in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and other applicable platforms.
- Utilize CET Designer and established design resources as the basis of design.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for application planning and design documentation questions.
- Review team deliverables for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and adherence to established standards.
- Provide guidance and support to Technical Designers on design tools, drawing methods, and planning requirements.
- Entry level knowledge of MillerKnoll products and application guidelines with willingness to grow.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to a small team of Technical Designers.
- Coordinate priorities and support workload balancing across the team
- Foster collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and technical excellence within the team.
- Ensure all technical design deliverables adhere to established drawing standards, documentation procedures, and application guidelines.
- Maintain consistency and quality across all technical outputs.
- Perform quality reviews and approvals prior to final delivery.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and technical deliverables as needed.
- Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, and technical considerations effectively.
- Contribute to planning discussions and problem-solving efforts related to application design initiatives.
- Support strategic initiatives requiring technical design expertise and application planning knowledge.
- Train, hire, and develop team members as needed to support evolving business needs.
- Voice recommendations for continuous improvement and explore opportunities for enhancement by referencing metrics and analytics.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architectural Design, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
- 5-7 years of experience in technical design, commercial interiors, workplace solutions, contract furniture, architecture, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience creating technical drawings and documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp.
- Experience working within the contract furniture industry preferred.
- Prior experience leading projects, following established standards, or providing technical leadership preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Revit.
- Revit family creation and CET Designer experience are strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and CAP 2020 preferred.
- Experience with AI-enabled workflows and visualization best practices preferred.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings, floor plans, elevations, and related design documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and disciplines.
- Strong commitment to continuous learning and maintaining expertise in relevant design technologies and MillerKnoll products.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and other business productivity tools.
