Job Description:
Associate Director – Indirect tax transformation (E-invoicing)
Location: London/Reading/Bristol (hybrid)
Level: Associate Director
Team: Digital Tax Consulting Team (Indirect tax transformation and technology)
Role overview
We're looking for an indirect tax transformation Associate Director with a primary focus on leading the delivery of e-invoicing projects within our growing Digital Tax Consulting team. This is a client-facing role initially focusing on global e-invoicing and e-reporting mandates but will also provide the opportunity to grow and support other areas of our transformation business as required i.e. implementation of VAT solutions, working on ERP programs.
As Associate Director, you will own end-to-end delivery of e-invoicing engagements – from solution selection/design through to requirements gathering, configuration, testing and go-live while building client relationships. You'll lead multi-disciplinary teams, coach Managers and Senior Associates, and represent the practice in front of Heads of Tax, CFOs and IT Directors.
What you will do
- Own end-to-end delivery of e-invoicing projects, managing scope, budget, risk and quality across the full project lifecycle
- Support, develop and help maintain alliances with third party technology providers
- Interpret country-specific e-invoicing mandates globally, including data and process impact/requirements and translating them into practical delivery actions for clients as part of projects
- Act as a senior point of contact on engagements, building and holding relationships with Tax, Finance and IT stakeholders
- Lead and coach project teams, developing Managers, Senior Associates and Associates through review, delegation and day-to-day guidance
- Own engagement risk and quality: apply firm policies and procedures, maintain appropriate documentation, and ensure compliance with internal quality standards and external regulatory expectations
- Drive business development: identify and shape new e-invoicing opportunities, lead proposals and bids, and contribute to thought leadership that builds the firm's market position
- Strengthen the wider practice — refine delivery methodology, build reusable accelerators and tools, and support recruitment and capability building within the team
Key skills and experience
Essential
- Experience delivering tax technology or e-invoicing implementation projects in a consulting, professional services, or in-house tax technology environment, at a level where you have owned delivery rather than supported it
- Deep working knowledge of e-invoicing and e-reporting regimes in at least one major region (EU, Middle East, Latin America or Asia-Pacific), and the ability to speak credibly about how mandates differ across jurisdictions
- Hands-on experience implementing/integrating at least one e-invoicing or tax compliance platform
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder technology engagements, managing budget, risk and quality without close supervision
- Strong stakeholder management
- A track record of business development – proposal writing, client relationship building, and converting engagement work into follow-on opportunities
- People leadership experience: managing, coaching and developing team members across multiple concurrent engagements
- Sound understanding of engagement risk, quality standards and regulatory expectations in a professional services environment
Additional advantageous experience
- Professional tax or accounting qualification (e.g. CTA, ACA, ACCA) or equivalent
- ERP experience (Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP S/4HANA) specifically for tax or e-invoicing purposes
- Experience leading global rollout programmes spanning multiple countries and jurisdictions
- Broader indirect tax technology exposure – VAT compliance solutions, Tax engines etc.
- Familiarity with data analytics or automation tools (Alteryx, Power BI, SQL, Python) to support e-invoicing data validation and reporting
