Position overview

A key member of the Business Development team to achieve RGA's financial target, create new business opportunity through driving new propositions and working closely with Pricing, Investment Solutions, Marketing & Transaction Services (MTS) and Treaty teams.  The candidate will also dual hat as a key member of the Corporate Development team to drive strategic initiatives to accelerate RGA’s growth in APAC.

Responsibilities

• Develop a good understanding of RGA’s risk appetite and pricing frameworks to facilitate development of executable reinsurance solutions that contribute to RGA’s success

• Structure solutions that satisfy RGA’s risk and pricing frameworks

• Drive and prioritize reinsurance quotations, and proactively project manage client requests

• Liaise internally across teams to ensure the company’s deliverables are meeting client’s needs and satisfying RGA’s service standards

• Establish strong working relationships with clients of RGA including senior executive decision makers

• Negotiate on behalf of RGA and to manage multiple projects as well as reinsurance quotations

• Perform research and analyze latest marketing/product trends in Japan market, present results internally and externally and identify opportunities or innovative solutions

• Develop a good understanding of Japan accounting, solvency & capital and other relevant regulations

• Create marketing materials (e.g. presentation and proposals etc.) and manage RGA intellectual capital (e.g. template updates)

• Represent RGA in industry events and speak at client events and seminars

• Lead cross-functional project teams or assist in project work including establishing internal reports, analyzing profitability of existing treaty lines and business case proposals

• Provide guidance to other team members and assist to build and manage a strong Business Development team for both Financial Solutions and Traditional businesses

• Support Executive Director, Business Development on other business matters and tasks as and when required

• Support Vice President, Corporate Development APAC on strategic initiatives RGA will assess and execute, including M&As, strategic partnerships and associated reinsurance transactions

• Conduct research and develop a good understanding of industry trends and strategic opportunities, analyze potential targets and potential partners’ strategic priorities, devise strategic partnership and transaction frameworks, and assess how value can be created through partnership with RGA

• Create and present strategic discussion materials for potential partners and internal stakeholders

• Work closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to execute strategic transactions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or related disciplines

• 10+ years' experience in a life insurance, insurance consulting or reinsurance company, experience in product development or pricing

• 5 years' reinsurance experience with exposure to client facing work (marketing, business development) or with significant exposure to reinsurance as part of the job

• Financial institutions and/or investment banking experience is preferred

• Actuarial qualification or equivalent is preferred

• Excellent communication skills in Japanese and English (both written and verbal is preferred) with the ability to communicate difficult concepts and negotiate with others to adopt a different point of view

• Strong critical and innovative thinking, with the ability to develop business insights, resolve complex problems and deliver solutions as well as recommendations is preferred

• Highly motivated, results oriented and solutions focused

• Excellent project management skills and ability to partner with internal & external stakeholders in a collaborative manner
