Job Description

The Department of Philosophy at Miami University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position in Medical Ethics with competence in other areas of applied ethics and/or environmental philosophy, starting Fall 2027. We have teaching needs in applied ethics, environmental philosophy, and writing philosophy.  The College of Arts and Science at Miami University has a growing emphasis on preparing students for careers in healthcare, including nursing, physician assistant, and pre-med programs. 

The successful candidate will teach Medical Ethics at least once a year, and possibly every semester. The remaining teaching load would include introductory courses and other Applied Ethics courses. Prior coursework in biology and/or the health sciences is desirable but not required. Service to the department and university is expected. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Mallory-Wilson Center for Healthcare Education.

Assistant Teaching Professor positions at Miami University are non-tenure track positions, but are renewable and have opportunities for promotion (Associate and Full ranks) that include long-term contracts. We seek a candidate who will flourish in a pluralist department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Ph.D. in Philosophy by time of appointment; teaching experience and demonstration of teaching effectiveness.
