The Department of Marketing and Management in the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Management with a specialization in Sports Management. 

The Cofrin School of Business prioritizes teaching excellence, learner success, quality scholarship, engagement with the regional business community, and dedication to collaboration, institutional service, community engagement, and professional service. Professional experience in business or sports-related industries is viewed favorably. The successful candidate will join a growing school with expanding enrollment, strong regional partnerships, and a commitment to applied, high-impact learning. 

This position contributes to undergraduate and graduate programs in Management while supporting the continued development of sports and event management curriculum. Located in one of the nation's most distinctive sports markets, UW–Green Bay provides exceptional opportunities to connect academic programs with professional, collegiate, semi-professional, and community-based sports organizations. The successful candidate will engage regional organizations to develop experiential learning, applied projects, research collaborations, and community partnerships.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an active program of scholarship consistent with rank, including peer-reviewed publications and collaborative research with faculty and students. 
  • Build and sustain partnerships with regional professional, collegiate, semi-professional, community sports, entertainment, and event organizations. 
  • Participate fully in AACSB accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Contribute to curriculum innovation and program development within the Cofrin School of Business. 
  • Mentor students in the “transcripts to resumes” program.  
  • Engage in institutional, community, and professional service. 
  • Teach a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in sports management, event management, and general management.

Compensation:

Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Management, Sport Management, Sport Administration, or a closely related discipline from an AACSB accredited institution by the end of the first academic year. Candidates who have not completed their doctorate by the start date will be hired into a terminal appointment at the rank of Instructor with a rate determined at the time of hire. Upon degree conferral, the title will change to Assistant Professor. The contract will not be renewed if the degree is not conferred by the end of the terminal appointment.  
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly activity appropriate to career stage, including peer-reviewed publications. 
  • Evidence of effective teaching. 
  • Evidence of engagement in institutional, community, or professional service. 

Conditions of Appointment:

The home campus of this position is Green Bay. Courses, including foundational business and management courses, will be taught in face-to-face, asynchronous online, and/or synchronous online formats.

Position is an academic year, tenure-track appointment.  Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years, although tenure decisions may be at any time.  Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure.  Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity, and institutional service required for retention and promotion.  A pre-employment education check which includes, but is not limited to, the verification of academic credentials will be conducted on the finalist(s).  A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).  In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the university does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record. In addition, if the final selected candidate has prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct will be completed.

Benefit Details 

The Universities of Wisconsin provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. For benefits eligible positions, this includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately, and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The Universities of Wisconsin also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation. 

 

In addition, eligible employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually and paid parental leave. Eligible employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.

Employee Misconduct 

All final candidates will be asked to provide names, email contact information, and/or phone numbers for three (3) references, with at least one being from a manager or supervisor, during the interview process. All final candidates must be asked, prior to hire, whether they have been found to have engaged in, are currently under investigation for, or left employment during an active investigation in which they were accused of employee misconduct, sexual violence or sexual harassment. When obtaining employment reference checks, these same misconduct, sexual violence or sexual harassment questions must also be asked.
