The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is seeking an exceptional candidate to join the abdominal transplant anesthesia team. Employment Requirements:
- Candidates for this position should have completed a US-approved residency in Anesthesiology or have obtained equivalent training and certification.
- Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiology is required for this position. (Equivalence to board certification can be determined on a case-by-case basis).
- Fellowship training in transplant anesthesiology is strongly desired.
- Candidates should be experienced in the management of end-stage liver disease, massive transfusion and viscoelastic testing, large-bore vascular access, and veno-venous bypass.
- Familiarity with intraoperative TEE and point-of-care ultrasound is desirable.
- While research experience is not required to apply for this position, it is highly desirable.
Job Description:
- The position covers adult liver and combined kidney/pancreas transplantation, including deceased and living donor cases.
- On days not assigned to transplant, the anesthesiologist works in the general OR. Cases may include orthopedics, GYN, community OB, abdominal cases, general vascular, and kidney transplants. Cardiac cases and children under 2 years of age are not required.
- Applicants should be comfortable supervising residents, CRNAs, and SRNAs.
- Applicants should also feel comfortable performing cases on their own if required.
- Applicants should be able to participate in the department's academic activities, including teaching and mentoring trainees and participating in departmental conferences and faculty meetings.
- Transplant call participation is required. Cases are frequently unscheduled and may begin at any hour, including nights and weekends.
- General call pool participation is optional.
- The effort distribution may change based on department needs, candidate’s interests, and success in obtaining extramural grant funding.
Compensation
- Compensation depends on years of experience and determination of professorial rank at the time of hiring.
- Transplant call coverage is compensated by department policy.
