The Marshall Career Services team, comprised of more than 30 professional staff, and more than 30 undergraduate and graduate student staff, lead the charge to ensure all of Marshall’s approximately 8,500 undergraduate, specialized MS, and MBA students have the support, resources, and connections to achieve their professional goals. Position Summary:

Marshall Career Services (MCS) is searching for an experienced career services leader to join our team as the Assistant Dean and Director of Undergraduate Career Services. This critical leadership position reports directly to the Associate Dean and Director of Marshall Career Services and will serve on the department’s leadership team.

USC Marshall’s undergraduate program is one of the top business programs in the world, and the incoming assistant dean will ensure the program remains strong and evolves to meet the needs of today’s students. The incumbent will hold responsibility for setting a strategic vision and goals for undergraduate career services that align with the broader department/school/university vision and goals.

The position leads a team of at least 8 full-time employees, as well as multiple student employees, in addition to close collaboration with MCS’s operations team that supports events, communications, and assessment. The assistant dean will be responsible for administering a budget of more than $350,000 from a variety of funding sources, including meeting self-generated revenue targets.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead the strategic vision for undergraduate career services; ensure that vision is forward-thinking, student-centered, and aligned with the broader MCS, Marshall School of Business, and USC vision, mission, and goals

  • Continually evolve the undergraduate career services program; setting and achieving annual goals, staying up to date on student and employer trends, and advocating for student success

  • Strategically deploy limited resources to integrate career services throughout the student’s experience (classrooms, student clubs, orientation, etc.); actively work with others to integrate career services and scale the team’s reach and impact

  • Directly supervise two senior associate directors; lead a full team of at least 8 professional employees, as well as resource and student employees; lead supervision, hiring, training, and evaluation

  • Engage the undergraduate career services team in collaborative decision-making and strategic planning, using the team’s collective expertise to move the organization forward; empower team members to reach their full potential, professionally develop, move independently, and do their best work

  • Oversee $350,000+ annual undergraduate career services budget, including funding from a variety of sources; actively strategize to grow the budget; ensure money follows mission and expenditures are aligned with priorities; continually grow self-generated revenue

  • Actively manage the budget, ensuring that the income, self-generated revenue, foundation accounts, and reserve accounts remain balanced and the long-term health of the organization is secure

  • Regularly assess the impact of AI on the student’s and team’s experience; evolve services to adapt to the quickly changing landscape; decide on the strategic adoption or elimination of the extensive vendor and software options

  • Continually expand Marshall’s relationships with employers; continually work to increase students’ access to internship and full-time opportunities

  • Maintain knowledge of continually shifting employment landscape for international students, expand our relationship with companies hiring students regardless of work authorization, and expand access to employment opportunities abroad

  • In line with the Marshall Career Service’s strategic value of career-outcome-driven, actively monitor the internship and full-time career outcomes of all undergraduate students; work aggressively to implement continual solutions to ensure Marshall’s current undergraduate career outcomes remain exemplary

  • As the team leader, lean into Marshall Career Service’s strategic value of relationship-centered, actively build positive relationships with students; maintain relationships with student clubs and their leaders, take opportunities to attend events and be visibly present, lean into relationships during times of conflict, and be an exceptional supervisor

  • Liaise with a wide range of constituents beyond the day-to-day work, including staff, faculty, donors, parents, and other university offices, including Athletics, career services in other schools, the central Career Center, and many more

  • Serve on Marshall Career Service’s leadership team; supporting the associate dean with strategic planning, overall team leadership, university-wide collaborations, significant projects, and setting a positive example for the full team

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 10 years of relevant professional experience; demonstrated experience in career services, human resources, recruiting, or related field

  • Experience successfully supervising professional staff

  • A strong history working with undergraduate students around career development

  • The desire to be part of a large and collaborative team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant master’s or doctoral degree

Anticipated Salary Range

The hourly range for this position is $121,596.75 - $142,202.12 - $176,382.40. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Master's degree
