Position Summary

The University of Mount Saint Vincent School of Nursing seeks a dedicated nursing faculty member to contribute to excellence in teaching, academic advising, student success, and service while providing specialized coordination and support for cohorts of religiously observant Jewish nursing students.

The successful candidate will promote academic achievement, student engagement, retention, and progression by providing culturally responsive support and assisting students and faculty in navigating academic requirements, religious observances, and applicable University policies and procedures.

Working collaboratively with the Dean of Nursing, faculty, students, Admissions, the Registrar, and other University offices, the faculty member will serve as a resource and liaison to support effective communication, proactive academic planning, and an inclusive learning environment. The position will assist in identifying and addressing potential scheduling considerations related to religious observances while supporting the academic, clinical, professional, and accreditation requirements of the nursing program.

Faculty Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses consistent with School of Nursing needs, faculty qualifications, and applicable accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide academic advisement, mentoring, and support to nursing students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain professional competence through scholarship, clinical practice, professional development, and service, as appropriate to faculty rank and appointment.
  • Serve on School of Nursing and University committees as assigned.
  • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, progression, engagement, and retention initiatives.
  • Perform other faculty responsibilities consistent with University and School of Nursing expectations.

Religious Student Success Coordination

  • Serve as a School of Nursing resource for supporting cohorts of religiously observant Jewish students, including students in Orthodox Jewish nursing cohorts.
  • Provide culturally responsive guidance and support to students, faculty, and staff regarding religious observances and practices that may affect participation in academic, clinical, laboratory, simulation, or other program activities.
  • Support students in navigating academic requirements and University processes related to religious observances and accommodation requests.
  • Facilitate communication among students, faculty, and appropriate University offices when religious observances or practices may intersect with academic or clinical requirements.
  • Promote proactive academic planning to support student progression, engagement, and retention while maintaining established academic, clinical, professional, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Recognize that religious practices and observances may vary among individuals and support students based on their individual circumstances and applicable University policies.

Academic Calendar and Scheduling Coordination

  • Work with the Dean of Nursing and relevant university offices to review academic calendars, clinical schedules, laboratory experiences, examinations, orientations, and major program events.
  • Develop recommendations to minimize conflicts between nursing program requirements and significant Jewish holidays.
  • Assist faculty in planning course schedules and assessments in compliance with university policies related to religious accommodations.
  • Coordinate advance communication regarding holiday observances and potential scheduling impacts.

Faculty Education and Cultural Responsiveness

  • Develop and deliver orientation materials and professional development sessions regarding Orthodox Jewish culture, traditions, and educational considerations.
  • Serve as a resource to faculty and staff regarding culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Provide consultation regarding classroom, clinical, simulation, and advising practices that support student success while maintaining program standards.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging issues affecting Orthodox Jewish students in higher education and nursing education.
  • Develop and provide educational resources, orientation materials, and professional development opportunities related to Orthodox Jewish religious observances, cultural practices, and considerations relevant to nursing education.
  • Serve as an educational resource to faculty and staff regarding culturally responsive and inclusive teaching, advising, and student-support practices.
  • Provide consultation regarding classroom, clinical, laboratory, simulation, and advising practices that support an inclusive learning environment while maintaining academic, professional, clinical, safety, and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with appropriate University offices to ensure that information regarding religious accommodations and related policies is communicated accurately and consistently.
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging issues, effective practices, and developments affecting religiously observant Orthodox Jewish students in higher education and nursing education.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Professional Nurse license and eligibility for licensure in New York State.
  • Teaching, academic advising, clinical education, student-support, or relevant nursing leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive student matters with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Commitment to student success, academic excellence, and an inclusive educational environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across academic and administrative departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Nursing, nursing education, or a related field, as appropriate to faculty rank.
  • Experience teaching nursing in a higher education setting.
  • Experience supporting students from religiously observant communities, including experience with Orthodox Jewish students or communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or ability to develop knowledge of, Jewish religious observances and cultural practices relevant to academic and clinical planning.
  • Experience with student success, retention, academic advising, or program coordination initiatives.
  • Experience developing or facilitating educational programming related to cultural responsiveness, student support, or inclusive educational practices.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple academic and administrative departments.
