The College of Education and Human Development invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics/STEM Education to begin Fall 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate educator preparation through high-quality teaching, active research and scholarly agenda in mathematics education, and service to the department, college, university, and profession. Responsibilities include teaching courses in mathematics education and related areas, mentoring students, contributing to program development, and establishing a productive research agenda that includes scholarly publications, presentations, and pursuit of external funding, as appropriate. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to effective mathematics teaching and learning, collaboration with educational partners, and the university’s teaching, research, and service missions.
The department of Curriculum Instruction and Learning Sciences (CILS) offers the following top-rated academic programs: bachelor of science in early childhood education (EC-3), elementary education (with specializations in bilingual, elementary generalist, and mathematics 4-8), and special education; post baccalaureate alternative certification; master’s in curriculum and instruction, elementary education, instructional design and educational technology, reading, secondary education, and special education; and a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction (with specializations in literacy studies, curriculum studies, instructional design and educational technology, kinesiology, and special education). Required Qualifications:
Assistant Rank:
- Earned Doctoral degree in Mathematics Education, or a closely related field. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred by the time of appointment.
- A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Mathematics Education or a closely related area.
- Three (3) years (EC-12) teaching experience in mathematics education with certification.
- Familiarity with educator preparation and certification standards.
- Evidence of an Emerging Research Record.
Associate Rank:
- Earned Doctoral degree in Mathematics Education, or a closely related field
- A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Mathematics Education or a closely related area.
- Three (3) years (EC-12) teaching experience in mathematics education with certification.
- Five (5) years of full-time university faculty experience including at least four (4) years in the rank of assistant professor.
- Familiarity with educator preparation and certification standards.
- Evidence of an Emerging Research Record.
- Demonstrated experience teaching, mentoring, supervising, or advising students at the university level.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications for both Ranks:
- Membership and active involvement in professional organizations.
- Demonstrated record of scholarly research and publication in mathematics education/STEM.
- Demonstrated experience and potential for success in grant writing and securing external funding.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring doctoral students, including serving on or chairing dissertation committees.
- Demonstrated experience with instructional technology and online course development.
- Ability to contribute to undergraduate and graduate programs within the department.
- Commitment to student success, collaboration, and service to the department, college, university, and profession.
