BASIC FUNCTION:
WHUR is searching for experienced Announcers to add to one of Washington DC’s top rated radio broadcast teams. The purpose of this position is to serve as an on-air host/talent for an Urban Adult music-based format, targeted to a 25-54 year-old audience. The ideal candidate is highly engaging, influential, innovative, marketable and has a winning attitude!

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include administrators, faculty, staff and students of the department and university. External contacts include officials of professional organizations, visitors and the general public especially a vast listening audience via radio, online and social media platforms.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Serves as “ON-AIR” host/personality and website blogger.
Reads commercials, promotional copy and public service announcements.
Announces musical selections, station breaks, commercials, or public service information, and accepts listening audience requests.
Ability to produce pre-recorded commercial spot announcements.
Operates “ON-AIR” production and remote equipment.
Maintains daily program and transmitter logs in compliance with FCC rules and regulations.
Ability to interview celebrities, civic leaders and other personalities/special guests.
Represents station at promotional events.
Provide engaging on-air and influential online content for station target audience.
Engage with listeners in person at events, via phone calls, contests and social media platforms.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, social and visual media.
Knowledge of Urban Adult music and entertainment that appeals to 25-54 target audience.
Competence in both oral and written English.
Proficiency running an audio console and other professional studio equipment such as Vox Pro and Adobe Audition.
Experience in interviewing guests, reading information, operating equipment and communicating to the general public.
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with staff, students, faculty, University officials, clients and the general public.
Ability to use print, broadcast and Web-based communications to develop and implement communication material.
Ability to work weekends and travel to represent station at entertainment events as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School graduate and five years of responsible professional radio announcing or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrable Nielsen Audio PPM ratings success in medium, large or major market.
