Your role:

As an Analytical Development Scientist within our Biopharma Technical Development team, you will contribute to the development of innovative biopharmaceutical and vaccine products.

This is a predominantly laboratory-based role, focused on developing and optimising analytical methods to support microbial and cell culture development projects. You will combine hands-on experimentation with scientific interpretation, working collaboratively with colleagues at Speke and across Elanco's global network.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise analytical methods supporting biopharmaceutical and vaccine process development, including HPLC, ELISA, UV and CE-SDS techniques.
  • Plan, execute and evaluate laboratory studies through hands-on experimentation, using scientific knowledge and data interpretation to support project decisions.
  • Provide analytical expertise across development laboratory and pilot plant projects at Speke and, where required, across Elanco's global network.
  • Interpret analytical data, identify potential Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs), product/process-related impurities and stability requirements, and translate findings into appropriate development strategies.
  • Plan and execute analytical method validations and fit-for-purpose studies to meet project requirements.
  • Communicate project progress and scientific findings effectively to technical teams and global stakeholders and produce high-quality, peer-reviewed technical documentation.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in compliance with applicable safety, quality and Good Research Practice requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement and scientific innovation, including collaboration with external organisations and supporting analytical method technology transfers when required.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):

  • Degree or higher degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology/Biologics or a related scientific discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in analytical method development, preferably 2+ years, or relevant research experience such as a PhD.
  • Strong understanding of protein chemistry.
  • Practical expertise in developing and optimising analytical methods, particularly HPLC, UV, ELISA and CE-SDS.
  • Understanding of CQAs, process- and product-related impurities and stability requirements within biopharmaceutical development.
  • Experience planning and executing analytical method validations or fit-for-purpose studies.
  • Ability to work according to Good Research Practices and produce high-quality scientific and technical documentation.
  • Strong scientific curiosity, problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed teams.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):

  • Experience supporting biopharmaceutical, biologics or vaccine development from early through later development phases.
  • Experience interpreting structural analytical data, including mass spectrometry, or experience with cell-based assay data.
  • Experience supporting analytical method technology transfers or collaborating with external scientific organisations.
  • Strong learning agility and the ability to quickly develop expertise in new scientific areas in response to evolving project and business needs.

Additional Information:

This is a predominantly laboratory-based position at our Speke site in Liverpool, offering the opportunity to work within a collaborative R&D environment and contribute to biopharmaceutical and vaccine development projects across Elanco's global network.
