Air Proprietary Tooling Engineer (Entry-Level or Associate)

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking motivated Tooling Engineers located in Berkeley, MO.

 

This role will support design, development, installation, and sustainment of production tooling and assembly aids used across manufacturing and maintenance programs. The role partners with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and design engineering to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective tooling solutions that enable efficient production.

Position Responsibilities

• Develop and qualify production tooling, jigs, fixtures, and assembly aids from concept through production release
• Translate manufacturing and design requirements into tooling specifications, drawings, 3D CAD models, and bill of materials
• Perform tolerance stack-up, fit checks, and tooling validation through analysis, prototyping, and hands-on trials
• Support tooling fabrication and inspection, including supplier management, fabrication oversight, and acceptance criteria verification
• Lead root-cause analyses for tooling-related manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions and continuous improvement
• Create and maintain tooling documentation: process plans, safety assessments, work instructions, inspection plans, and change records
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—manufacturing, quality, stress, systems, and supply chain—to ensure tooling meets program schedule, safety, and quality goals
• Ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards, maintain configuration control and tooling lifecycle records
• Participate in cost estimating, risk assessments, and schedule planning for tooling programs

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (e.g., CATIA V5, Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks) for tooling design
• Basic knowledge of GD&T, manufacturing processes (machining, fabricating, welding, composite tooling), and inspection principles
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to travel to manufacturing sites and supplier locations as needed

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

• (Level 2) 2+ years work-related experience with a Bachelors degree OR an equivalent combination of work-related experience and technical education
• Experience with tooling build/installation support in production or shop floor environments
• Familiarity with aerospace materials and composites tooling considerations
• Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods
• Results oriented with a focus on safety, quality, and schedule
• Strong verbal and written communication; effective with cross-functional audiences
• Continuous learner comfortable in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

 

Summary pay range:

Leve 1/Entry-Level: $71,400 - $96,600

Level 2/Associate: $85,000 - $115,000
