Compensation: $58/hr 

FLSA: Non-Exempt 

Employee Type: Part-Time, Temporary through August 31, 2027 

Location: New York, NY 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 1 day/week in the SEO office at 55 Exchange Place, New York, NY 10005 

Hours: 15–20 hours per week; minimum commitment of 70 hours each month 

Schedule:  

  • In-person attendance is required for the Saturday programming dates below at the following locations (subject to change):  
  • Fall 2026: Long Island University  
    • 9/12/26, 9/19/26, 10/3/26, 10/17/26, 10/24/26, 11/7/26, 11/14/26, 11/21/26, and 12/5/26 
  • Spring 2027: Baruch College   
    • Dates to be determined

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Part-Time Advisory Curriculum Writer is responsible for: 1. designing, developing, and refining Advisory curriculum that is research based, culturally responsive, and supports students’ self development, critical thinking, and college and career readiness; and 2. supporting the part-time Advisory instructor hiring process and conducting instructor observations. This role works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Advisory Curriculum Development and collaborates with instructors, teaching and learning managers, cross-functional teams and external partners. The ideal candidate is a skilled curriculum writer with experience working with high school-aged students, who is adept at project management and thrives on creativity, collaboration, and forward-thinking design. 

Curriculum Design and Development (~50%) 

  • Develop and revise high-quality Advisory curriculum for grades 9–12 for a variety of settings (synchronous and asynchronous, in-person and remote), including lesson plans, classwork, assignments, assessments, and instructional resources. 
  • Ensure curriculum aligns with organizational objectives. 
  • Create multimedia content (scripts and instructional videos) to support curriculum delivery and student engagement. 
  • Stay current with trends and research in curriculum design and secondary/post-secondary education. 
  • Complete curriculum writing projects on schedule and with attention to detail.  
  • Engage in regular check-ins with the Assistant Director of Advisory Curriculum Development, and revise curriculum materials based on feedback. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

Teaching and Instructional Community Support (~30%)  

  • Collaborate with the Teaching & Learning team to: 
  • Support part-time instructor hiring during the fall, spring and summer semesters across all sites by observing demo lessons, conducting interviews, and providing hiring recommendations based on high school humanities content knowledge and pedagogy. 
  • Conduct instructor observations during Saturday Academy and Summer Academy (both in-person at our New York City programming sites and online over Zoom); provide actionable feedback to instructors, the Teaching & Learning team, and the Advisory team. 
  • Act as a substitute Advisory teacher on Saturdays for online or in-person programming as needed.  
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

Cross-Functional and Organizational Collaboration (~20%) 

  • Work closely with the Advisory team to analyze assessment, survey, and evaluation data to guide revisions. 
  • Collaborate with other curriculum teams (ELA and math) to ensure coherence and integration across academic programs. 
  • Participate in weekly Advisory team meetings and collaborative meetings with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen curriculum design and delivery. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • 2-4 years of experience working with high school-aged students (teaching, advising, counseling, mentoring, or program coordination). 
  • Strong background in student-centered and culturally responsive pedagogy, Social-emotional learning (SEL), college and career readiness instruction, equity-and justice-oriented curriculum design. 
  • Experience coaching teachers or providing instructional resources is a plus. 

Competencies & Skills 

  • Proficiency in educational technology (e.g. Google Workspace, Brightspace, Miro, Snorkl, Level All, etc.). 
  • Strong project management skills with ability to meet deadlines across multiple priorities. 
  • Highly adaptable, solutions-oriented, and detail-focused. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with a commitment to team growth. 
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning and growth. 
  • Technically proficient in standard workplace applications like Zoom, Google Workspace, and Box. 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS   

The compensation listed in this posting reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.  

This position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
